Wine of the Week: Cheval des Andes
One of the highlights of attending En Primeur in Bordeaux this year for me had been the opportunity to taste the new vintage of prestigious, historic Chateau Cheval Blanc, famed for nearly two centuries for its unique terroir. Audebert tasted it and pronounced “silky and mature tannins that combines with elegant notes of smoke and tobacco.

2004 Burgundy Red Wine - How Bad is it?
But not in the unripe sense, in otherwise ripe wines, it is a vegetal, raw cedar, seaweedy, unpleasant aroma and taste. have no tasting notes to share with you because I didn't take any, but you can read Keith Levenberg's notes here. It is commonly said that 2004 is the worst recent vintage for red wine in Burgundy. Vivant.

Old Coulée de Serrant: Thoughts on a Friend's Birth Year Wine
I wish I could have tasted it when it was young to understand its progression. To celebrate a good friend's birthday, the other night we shared a bottle of wine from his birth year, the 1973 Château de la Roche-aux-Moines Clos de la Coulée de Serrant. We decanted this wine and drank it slowly over the course of the evening. 0% fruit.

Blind tasting is tough – tasting Bordeaux 2005 with Robert Parker
On Wednesday evening I attended a tasting of fifteen wines from Bordeaux 2005. Aside from that outrageous apparent quality of the wines, the tasting had two other attractions: the ability to taste some of the top wines blind and to do so in the company of Robert Parker. He said he hadn’t tasted these wines since 2007.

Brooklyn Blind Tasting Panel #2 - Poulsard
So it's good timing, then, that the Brooklyn Blind Tasting Panel's theme in its second meeting is Poulsard (or Ploussard if you are from Arbois), one of the red grapes of the Jura. Two of them were not included in this tasting - Ganevat's utterly delicious Poulsard is simply sold out, and Domaine de L'Octavin's Poulsard was also unavailable.

A Golden Nugget of a Tasting
I debated with myself about sharing this golden nugget of a wine tasting, and the good side of me won. When Sotheby's does a fine and rare wine auction they usually hold a pre-auction tasting. Deetrane first told me about these tastings and took me to one a year ago. If you go to the tasting, look for me.

Blind Tasting: Bordeaux Varietals, Part I
One of my wine and food resolutions for 2007 is to do more blind tasting. love the idea of tasting blind, letting your senses, and only your senses take control (isn't that some 1980's pop song?). would love to participate in a blind tasting of the sort that Eric Asimov's gang do for the NY Times Wines of the Times column.

Golden Nugget of a Tasting, Part II
About 30 people showed up at Sotheby's for the pre-auction tasting, as compared to about 100 last time. In sum: I tasted some really sick wine last night. The highlight for me though was tasting 6 Burgundies, 3 of them Grand Cru wines. The first Burgundy we tasted was maybe the best, a 1992 Compte Georges de Vogue Bonnes Mares.

Jura Tasting
Chambers Street Wines held a Jura tasting in the beginning of March. Here are the wines we tasted: NV Tissot Crémant du Jura , $19 - still delish , a former Friday Night Bubbles contestant. Whites 2004 Montbourgeau L'Etoile Blanc , $21 - tastes like sherry, but better than any sherry I've had. And it's time for me to grow up.

Wine Tasting Groups
I just read a great article on wine tasting groups. Gregutt's "Dump Bucket" mandate, without further ado, here is the article, written by Paul Greggutt (found online at the Seattle Times website) January 2, 2008 - " Resolved for 2008: Start a wine-tasting group ". am fortunate to be a member in two, long-running tasting groups.

Gambero Rosso Tasting
So it's not like I can place what I tasted amidst my many other tasting experiences and say something meaningful. And I've never even heard of most of the producers I tasted. That said, I know my palate well enough to be confident when I smell and taste wine, to be able to say whether or not I like it. unrelenting.

Washington State Wine Tasting
A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the Washington Wine Commission's tasting called Expressive Terroir of Washington Country. So this tasting was a great opportunity for me to get a sense of the wines. All of the above except for Quicelda Creek, were scheduled to have at least one wine at the tasting. Alcohol is 14.1%.
