Bebame; a Steve Edmunds/Don Heistuman Production
There we were, toes deep in snow and grooving to cabernet franc and meanwhile he was cooking up an idea. The fantasy was delicious, approachable wine from the United States, made from a distinctly Loire Valley Blend, cabernet franc and gamay! Yesterday over lunch at Cafe Rouge with Steve Edmunds (Edmunds St. Shocking.

Baltailles Beaujolais 2004 Gamay Village
The Gamay grape is used primarily in the production of Beaujolais wines in France. This Baltailles Beaujolais 2004 is a cloudy light garnet color, probably unfiltered, with a bouquet that at first has a little more funk than I would expect, but transforms on the palate into a silky soft earthiness with high acidity and low tannins.

Emilion » A Gamay In Burgundy August 28, 2008 Gamay, the underdog of the wine world has been in the work, deadline is Tuesday. To plumb the depths of its slacker reputation I had an emergency gamay tasting in my living room, the Sunday before I packed off to France. She asked. Shall we have some?” 1947 Julienas.

2006 Dom. Diochon Moulin-a-Vent Cuvee Vieilles Vignes**
Although 100% gamay, it is thicker than many Burgundies. Moulin-a-Vent means 'windmill' in French and is one of the most famous of the Beaujolais Crus. Oz Clarke wrote that Mouin-a-Vent is good and rich and will develop for 10 years. To me, this was a shocking Beaujolias. little bubblegum on the nose. One of the best Beaujolais I've tasted.

By the Glass
went with a Gamay from the Loire Valley, a glass of 2006 O. loved the "regular" version of this Southwest France gem, so tasting the reserve was a no-brainer. I used to call this kind of post "Recent Sips," but I think I like this better. We went to Rosewater , a neighborhood favorite. Just take a look at their wine list! Beaujolais.

The Finest Value Red of the Season
Actually, it's a blend of Pinot and Gamay, so maybe instead I should say that it's the finest under $15 red wine of the season. For red wine Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and the obscure Pineau d'Aunis are allowed. Can you use 99% Pinot Noir and a touch of Gamay? It costs $13.50 Who knows.

Friday Night Bubbles
Cousin cultivates Gamay, Grolleau, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Chenin Blanc - there is something for everyone in this portfolio. NV Cousin-Luduc Saumur Brut , $26, Jenny & Francois Selections. This sparkling wine is no exception. Shouldn't that indicate a low pressure sparkling wine? As it turns out, yes.

CHAMARRE NOUVEAU UNCORKED AT AZZA LOUNGE
It is one of the most popular wines in France, normally made from Gamay grapes and fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Wednesday of November. Chamarre slightly twists the concept with a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Syrah from different regions of France. Wednesday, November 12, 2008, NYC.

Tasty American wine under $12: why so little of it? Industry replies, part I
All over France great wines are being produced, many different varieties but all growing in the region they should grow or do well. The home of Gamay is Beaujolais, the home of Pinot is Burgundy. In France, by law, yields are controlled. Over 30 of you had your say in the post from last week. 3) And so on…….
