The chateau was bought by a negociant who replaced the tanks with stainless steel and grubbed up the vineyard to plant a majority of cabernet sauvignon, with a smaller percentage of Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Of Bicyclettes, terroir, typicité: Over on HuffPo…
Jacqueline Friedrich , author of the guide The Wines of France , posted this comment as a reply. Over on HuffPo , there’s a piece up about the Red Bicyclette/faux pinot saga . As it touches on some issues that astute readers will remember from Wine Politics , I reproduce her comment here with permission:
1) As a previous post-er said, rightly, Pinot Noir is a grape.

Pineau des Charentes
When I was thinking about writing this post I asked Bert of Wine Terroirs for his thoughts about Pineau des Charentes, and this is what he said: I'm not speaking for the whole of France but I think it's quite objective to say that Pineau des Charentes is quite out of fashion. But I think Bert speaks for the French people as a whole, so there you have it - Pineau is not terribly popular among the younger set in France nowadays. Imagine a night out on the town, walking into a hip club, a couple of lovely gents or ladies at the bar, whatever your preference. It's not too loud and

Southwest France Revisited
But after discovering this little lovely from Domaine des Cassagnoles for $10, I had to keep going, to taste more white wine from Southwest France. Definitely not trying to steal Joe's thunder here, not that I could anyway. I like everything about these Southwestern whites so far.

Jamesport Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2005
This Cabernet Franc was part of the goodie bag I received upon leaving the Long Island Wine Challenge last week. Tags: Jamesport Vineyards north fork cabernet franc long island wine From the North Fork of Long Island, this deep red displays husky aromas of smoky currants, and menthol paired with flavors of chocolate, ripe cherries, candied lemon rinds, and vanilla followed by a vividly spiced finish. Enjoyed this at home paired with a pasta with red sauce.

Experiments in the Vegetarian Kitchen with Cabernet Franc from Loire
Commonly neglected like the spinach on a child’s plate, Cabernet Franc is often accused of being too green, too herbaceous, or too vegetal—traits that are often the result of underripe grapes. Tags: Recipes & Pairings Cabernet Franc Loire Valley Marc Ollivier Vegetarian Recipes Wine Pairin But some, myself included, embrace this greenness as a natural expression of the grape itself, and not necessarily always a negative result of nurture—or [...]

France So Far
On plane, the three vials of CRB pineau d'aunis went down with the ambien. Arrival in Beaune, Russell fetched me at the train. The Queen Before the guests arrived, Becky and I did some dueling computering, I, sipping at something like a Gagnard C-M. Dinner was had with some honeymooners, cucumber soup and some vegetable thing in my honor while they snaffed down the lamb.

Back from France
The good news is that BrooklynLady is completely fine, feeling much better. No baby yet, and hopefully not for at least another week - she's not due until December 31st, after all. The other good news is that I had the wine-trip of my life with Peter and Tista over the past few days in Burgundy. Days full of some of the most incredible wines

Chateau Grand Moulin 2005 France
This red wine from France is a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes. Color is clear dark garnet red with cherries, ripe fruit and tar on the nose. Palate has black cherry and white pepper undertones and moderate tannin. It is paired well with warm gruyere gougeres.
