Paul Draper’s forty years and the making of Ridge Monte Bello
The younger vintages are all tightly wound and will reward with more than a decade of cellaring; the world’s best cabernet assumes a delicacy and refinement that make it very much worth the wait. The wines were all from their cellars.
60-year-old Paul Draper is, without question, one of the world’s great winemakers. Even though he has every reason to be an egotistical blowhard, he remains humble and democratic in spirit, asking sincere questions of those around him and quick to point to his team as the reason for the winery’s success.

Antica Terra, Botanica, and Lillian
It has the mark of being made too easily (by picking out the best barrells in a cellar full of them) by a modest but artful and potent winemaker. have two bottles in my cellar, which I will wait another 3-10 to open. Tags: Cellar Selection Central California 2006 3 stars Oregon 2007 2008 4 star On Monday I was fortunate to attend a lunch at Eleven Madison Park hosted by Maggie Harrison, the proprietor of Antica Terra winery in Amity, Oregon. In short, Maggie's pinot noirs from Willamette Valley are not of this world.

Tidal Pool
It has good acidity and will probably improve over the next 5-plus years in the cellar, and I'm happy to have a few more bottles to watch this unfold. I have less experience with the 2007 Gilbert Picq Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros , $29, Polaner Imports, than I do with the Vieille Vignes, but in 2007 this wine is a definite step up. A few years ago I spent a lot of money on two bottles of Chablis , money that I wish I could have back right now. It's not that I don't like Fèvre's wines, I haven't had enough of them to know for sure.

Three Loire 05's for the Cellar
And if you're into cellaring wine, these will improve for at least a decade, probably longer. 2005 Foreau Vouvray Sec Clos Naudin , $29, Rosenthal Wine Merchant. Here is a concentrated and intense Loire Cab Franc that will reward time in the cellar. I've been checking in on my 2005 Loire wines lately, just to see how things are going. Loire-lovers have been touting 2005 as a great vintage, as good as 05 in Burgundy or Bordeaux.

John Gilman - View from the Cellar - On collecting and collectible values
He started his career in wine retail, later worked as a sommelier with a soft spot for Burgundy, and now has embarked on the foolhardy notion of writing a bi-monthly wine newsletter, A View from the Cellar . In this first posting, John discusses what would be in his cellar if he were starting collecting today, what he drinks at home on a Tuesday night, the most underrated wines for aging, where Lafite 2005 will be in five years, and what would be his “desert island wine.” John Gilman is one of the people who I have enjoyed getting to know in 2008. Except maybe he’s

8th Street Wine Cellar
Last night I met Lee, Ellen, and Oscar (my one-year-old date) at 8th Street Wine Cellar, a relatively recent addition to what was once Shoe Row; an unassuming spot whose signage is on the sidewalk, so look beneath your feet. Convoluted Thoughts on Cellaring Wine
have never purchased a bottle of wine, cellared it for long enough so that one would consider it "ready" to drink, and then drunk the wine. made the decision to cellar those bottles because I drank them, and other Muscadets, and given my constraints regarding space and money, I felt that these would be the most rewarding to cellar. assumed when buying it that I would cellar it for about 12 years. You know what I realized the other day? I

Inexpensive but Totally Cellar Worthy
It feels reassuring to do these things now that common wisdom says most of us in the US have been living way beyond our means, the economy isn't nearly as bad as it's going to get, and it's now about holding onto our jobs as opposed to getting a raise. Be that as it may, are we supposed to give up entirely on building our modest wine cellars? can cut down on buying new shoes and underwear, but no fine wine for the cellar - that would be an undo hardship. Make your morning coffee at home - why pay almost 3 bucks for it each day? Bring your lunch to work - why pay almost 10 bucks for it

2006 Grammercy Cellars Syrah Columbia Valley
At Buttermilk Channel recently we ordered a 2006 Grammercy Cellars Lagniappe Syrah ** from Columbia Valley, produced by Master Sommelier Greg Harrington. Co-fermented with 3% viognier in open top containers then "lightly pressed" to barrels and aged for 15 months, this is deeply colored, dark but not purple, and very continental in style, elegant and poised in the mouth, without any of the fat I find sometimes in California syrahs. The viognier is very expressive on the nose and the overall impression is of a Northern Rhone styled wine.

Women of the Vine Cellars Tempranillo Paso Robles 2004
This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Deborah Brenner , author of Women of the Vine and owner of Women of the Vine Cellars. Women of the Vine Cellars is the first-of-its-kind wine importing and marketing company to unite award winning women winemakers under one label. They create high quality, limited production wines especially hand-crafted for Women of the Vine Cellars. The results truly express the nuances of their worldwide regions and each woman's unique style. I'm constantly amazed by the diverse results of identical grapes grown in different regions of the world.
