From Barrel to Bottle Tasting NYC
If you are used to California cabs, you might appreciate the lower alcohol and more subdued and restrained flavors. Sopexa JoLynn Howe (right)

Do you know the Ruche Grape?
all started in the California gold rush years, when an ancient patriarch of the Ferraris family left his pregnant wife and three children in Italy for California and his chance at fame and fortune. I Learned that I Know Nothing About Wine
California? Another excellent California wine. The more I learn about wine, the more I realize that I don't know. This was also true when I played a lot of chess, when I was getting into economics courses in grad school, basically anytime I've undertaken anything of any import. Even within the wine regions I know, I don't really know anything.

Roundup - Recent Sips
California (huh? We cracked this at Mike's house at a recent holiday dinner and everyone, including seasoned California Cab fiends, was really impressed. Its been a really good wine drinking month. I've tasted a few wines that have been on my "wish list" for a while, others that I've been meaning to try and finally found a good excuse to open, and new releases of yet other wines that I taste each year.

For the 4th, an American Wine
But what is this - a California Chardonnay? The wine was DELICIOUS, and it resembled good Burgundy Chardonnay far more than any California Chard I've had. It's July 4th folks, and as an American, a Brooklynite, I feel compelled to write a little sumpthin about an American wine. I recently discovered a Napa Valley Chardonnay that I really like.

What, Me Turley?
Who woulda thunk it - Brooklynguy, lover of all reds light and elegant, got down and danced with a huge famous California Zinfandel the other night, and came out none worse for the wear. They are famous for Zin though, and at at least 15% alcohol, they are the epitome of the big beefy California Zin. In fact, I actually kind of liked it. Turley is a cult thing.

Cline Zinfandel 2007
Last week I tried the 2006 vintage of this Zinfandel from California, and this '07 is almost as good. California Reconsidered: Part One
In August I headed to California to work on a story about Hank Beckmeyer I also visited some of my friend, Paige Poulos's clients.
