When Steve Bate drove to the North Fork of Long Island for the first time, he was surprised at the working farms and vineyards in operation there. Since then its rise in popularity is obvious as visitors now call before-hand to ask what other events are happening.

Blind tasting is tough – tasting Bordeaux 2005 with Robert Parker
On Wednesday evening I attended a tasting of fifteen wines from Bordeaux 2005. Parker’s favorite 2005 Bordeaux with his rating in parenthesis: Angelus (98) • Cos d’Estournel (98) • Ducru Beaucaillou (97) • Haut Brion (98) • Lafite Rothschild (96+) • La Mission Haut Brion (97) • Larcis Ducasse (98) • Latour (96+) • L’Eglise Clinet (100) • Margaux (98+) • Montrose (95) • Pape Clement (98) • Pavie (98+) •Le Gay (95) • Troplong Mondot (99)
2005 is a vintage that is obviously very fresh in his The vintage was widely hailed as superb and pre-recession demand drove the prices into the stratosphere.

A Fantastic 2005 Bourgogne
2005 Burgundy is nuts. Honestly, if you see this wine and you're interested in dipping a toe into the 05 Burgundy pool, you should just buy a few bottles. Since there are several Ligniers out there making red wine in Burgundy, here is Lignier-Michelot's label, albeit from a different wine, but it's the same yellow label and red text that you're looking for. 2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne , $24 (Chambers Street Wines). Prices for the top bottles are truly insane, and you're going to spend $50 just for village level wine from the Cote de Nuits. I've basically accepted

2005 Bourgogne - a Few Favorites
2005 in Burgundy is one of those vintages in which all wines can be great. Yes, in 2005, some producers made humble regional wines that will knock your socks off. Their 2005 Bourgogne will run you more than $25 anyway. There are plenty of solid producers who made fantastic regional wine in 2005. You hear over and over again that very little sorting was necessary, the fruit was almost uniformly perfect. Grapes were harvested without a lot of rot or other damage, even from plots that qualify only for the regional designation of Bourgogne, Côte de Beaune Villages, or Côte de

Another White Stunner from 2005 Burgundy
I am finding that the un-oaked whites from the "lesser" regions of Burgundy are just fantastic in 2005. cannot get that 2005 Jean Manciat Macon-Charnay out of my mind since I first had it at a tasting. tasted another simply excellent 2005 un-oaked white Burgundy the other day, courtesy of the ever generous Deetrane. That they are reasonably priced makes the whole thing happy for everyone. The two "lesser" regions I refer to are the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais, both south of the Cote de Beaune and north of Beaujolais.

Texier 2005 Cotes du Rhone
I don't know why I haven't gotten around to writing about this wine, but ... Obviously, this wasn't a stunner. We actually drank this shortly before we opened the Duvel from Belgium. It had some interesting prune and varied purple fruit notes, but it came off flat.

2005 Zinfandels **
On New Year's day we opened a couple new zinfandels from the 2005 vintage to bring in the new year with hearty fare (chips and salsa) as we watched the Big 10 get eviscerated, once again, in the BCS bowls. Our first wine, a 2005 Hendry Zinfandel Block 28 Napa ** put on weight after decanting but failed to achieve the qualitative heights of the 2004 in terms of concentration and depth. Look for good dark fruits and mild loam, but no "wow." Likewise, the last Advanced Tasting Program release of 2008, Ridge Vineyards 2005 Zinfandel Nervo Vineyard ** from Sonoma, gained depth

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone 2005 **
The 2005, while less aromatic and less accessible than the spectacular 2004, is denser, darker, and more robust. This is very close to being the ideal table wine. Floral and spice notes on the nose. It has dark berries, good ground pepper spice, and some loam, with refreshing balance and graphite on the finish.

2005 Kosta Browne RRV Pinot Noir ****
you probably already see where I'm going with this. This Russian River Valley Pinot was in Spectator's top 5 for 2007 - I think it was their #3 wine of the year actually - and while I don't quite share that level of enthusiasm, this wine clearly stands out from the pack of California Pinot Noir, and is probably the best wine from here I've ever had. 2005 Kosta Browne Russian River Valley Pinot Noir **** Gorgeous ruby. What am I doing eating shell steak and drinking Cali Cult Pinot Noir in the middle of the day on April 1? Well, today is not only April Fool's Day, it's

2005 Dom. Meo Camuzet Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits **
For a mere appellation blend, this was gorgeous - perhaps just more evidence of the brilliance of the 2005 vintag The full name of this wine is Domaine Meo Camuzet Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Nuits A.C. Clos Saint Philibert Monopole ** medium bodied with light citrus notes and nice ripe fruit without being too forward.
