When speaking of Bordeaux varietals we are referring to the 5 varietals permitted in a Bordeaux wine. Let's start with Carmel. | WINE TASTING GUY MAY 5, 2008 NorCal day 2: Sonoma There were only 2 wines, a Chardonnay and a bordeaux blend. It was nice, as was the Proprietors Cab which was blended with 24% Syrah. | WINE TASTING GUY MAY 4, 2008 Day in Napa The wines that stood out though were their Syrahs. enjoyed the 2003 Havens Syrah but mentioned to Connie that I thought the nose was a little closed. She proceeded to open a 2000 Syrah that they recently re-released and it was great. Upon arriving we started with a very nice rose' made from Zin with a little Syrah. | | | | | | | | | -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2008 Polaner tasting standouts had a Bordeaux Blanc made by Arietta called the "Arietta White Wine on White Keys 2006" that was a blend of Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon and had an interesting breadiness with some melon & pineapple aromas. At a wholesale price of about $150/bottle the 2005 Gemstone Cabernet (blended with 6% Petit Verdot) was another BIG NAPA CAB. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2008 Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines could write about the fabulous Israeli Cab or the not so fabulous French Bordeaux, the overrated California red, or awful Israel Merlot (it was BAD) but who cares?!?!! Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. lighter wine than a Cab, merlot or Syrah, Barbera is said to be the most (or second most) planter varietal in Italy. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally) And finally the Peay 2005 "La Bruma" Estate Syrah, which I was told came from a very cool Syrah site, was also not a fruit bomb like some of the other Syrah's I tried. The 2003 "1er Etage" Cab Franc was blended with 2% Petit Verdot and had very subtle green notes but was was nice as well. Great stuff. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, JANUARY 6, 2008 Italian Wine tasting (Sicily) & Pizza They were not Bordeaux style wines. No Cab Franc, Petit Verdot or even any Syrah (shiraz). I just got back from a fabulous impromptu Italian wine & pizza tasting with several of my wine tasting group members (and some guests/possible new members??). There are so many things I can write about. No Cabernet Sauvignion. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13, 2007 WBW 34 - Washington State Cabernet Probably because Cabernet based wines and Syrahs are not my passion. These are Bordeaux blend wines with most of the grapes coming from what is supposedly one of Washington's best vineyard sites - Ciel de Cheval, or Horse Heaven Vineyard. Hard to believe it's already Wine Blogging Wednesday time again. Dark purple and inky. MORE >>
