BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2009 Wine and Cheese - Le Welsche and Gewurztraminer understand Gewurztraminer, like Muscat, the way they relate to the other white Alsace grapes. Alsace producers make dry, off-dry, and sweet wines from all of these grapes, yet the average Gewurztraminer seems to be too sweet. VINO | THURSDAY, JULY 16, 2009 Some like it hot and high alcohol – others don’t For what it’s worth, I think he’s right; try spicy Thai dishes with high-alcohol gewurztraminer from Alsace or red zinfandel from California and be amazed by the synergy. The Domaine Bott-Geyl Sonnenglanz Grand Cru Alsace dessert wine, made of Pinot Gris (and apparently given a 98 by Robert Parker) was a deliciously sweet treat. This one is more in the Italian style (no surprise, given the name), as opposed to the Alsace style that Oregon, the major new world Pinot Gris player, has adopted.
