WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
Beginning with their '06 " Sonoma Coast Estate" Chardonnnay, I found very nice subtle oak combined with nice citrus notes and fresh crisp flavors. The 2003 "1er Etage" Cab Franc was blended with 2% Petit Verdot and had very subtle green notes but was was nice as well. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. Great stuff. MORE >> -

From "Carmichael's eastern edge, where the soil is clay loam atop decomposed granite," this 96% zinfandel with 4% co-fermented petite sirah spent fifteen months in barrel and was bottled in March 2008. It is the best Advanced Tasting Program zinfandel released by Ridge in 2008. MORE >> -

Anyway, this Geyserville, from 70% zinfandel, 18% carignane, 10% petite sirah, and 2% mataro, is not without complexity. So I've been drinking a lot of Ridge Vineyards recently, and frankly, it's starting to get a little difficult to tell one zin from the next. But there are differences, subtle, but they're there. 80% zinfandel, 16% petite sirah, and 4% carignane, a 14.7% alcohol baby-zin from Ridge's Lytton Springs estate vineyard in Sonoma. Yes, *that* Juliana: non-drinker of zinfandel, who demanded I give this wine "3 stars." Well, she's right, considering it didn't last long at the table. MORE >>
