A WINE STORY | FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2011 Domaine Dominique Gallois Immediately one gets the impression that Mr. Gallois is a strict but benevolent master who goes to a great deal of effort to ensure his young “students” (the wines) have the best possible care and nutrition, but in return he expects a great deal out of them. This is important for long, slow fermentations and great aging potential. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JULY 27, 2010 My Favorite Rosé of the Summer? This wine reminds me very much of the 2008 Bernard Baudry Chinon Rosé in that it drinks more like a white wine than like a rosé. I'm telling you, when you deal with your summer basil, think of this wine. I think I might have decided on my favorite rosé of the summer, so far. think of those more as Bandol wines than as rosé anyway. -

WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2008 Carmel's quality wine revolution Fabulous new packaging to go along with a wine that is a great deal at its price. Among the many things I must do is to better acquaint myself with one of Israel's oldest wineries - Carmel. And taste I did. -
VIGNA UVA VINO | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2008 Competing with the Biggies for the Best Wine Deal On my limited budget, I'm always looking for the next great deal on a reasonably priced wine. EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2008 ROLLIN' AROUND IN THE IDEA OF ORGANIC I had so much fun doing the screwcap series. It was great learning all about how this "new" alternative to cork is making the scene. So I decided to delve into another, "hot-button" issue and that is the organic and biodynamic idea. What does this mean? Is organic wine and biodynamic wine better fore you than other wine. Is it a marketing ploy? -

WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, JUNE 22, 2008 Old wine recently found a "deal" on some wine. know I have encouraged people to check vintage when buying whites and I should have followed my own advice, but it was such a good deal - or so I thought. WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, JUNE 15, 2008 Hangovers When you ask people, worldwide, how to deal with a hangover, their first answer is usually the hair of the dog. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, APRIL 21, 2008 A Few Mature Wines This honestly is a very good deal, in that a bottle of perfectly mature wine from a top producer from other wine regions usually costs much more. WINE TASTING GUY | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2008 Better Wine Bar experiences NOT A BIG DEAL of course but I MUCH prefer to do my own pouring. This past Wednesday I visited two wine bars. One was with a young woman after work and the other was with yet another young woman somewhat later in the evening. The first wine bar was a South African wine bar which I have previously mentioned. Which I very much appreciated. -
SLAKED | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2008 Great deal on the 2002 Monte Bello in magnum. See [link]. Varietal Wines & Spirits described Monte Bello this way: "The Monte Bello (originally Monte Bello Cabernet; until 1975, 100% cabernet) is the wine that introduced Ridge to the world, and the world to Ridge. It is a blend of bordeaux varietals. Every decade has its high points. Taste and opinions differ. -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2008 Wine Deal - yet ANOTHER Aussie Shiraz, with full disclosure! But the reason I felt compelled to write about this deal is that it is an UNDER $15 bottle of wine. The following wine caught my attention for a few reasons. And none of them were taste (I haven't had the opportunity to try it), or the insane price for which it is being sold. But here no barrels were used. suggest you do the same. -

WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2008 Wine - Deal of the day Not cheap at $30, but seemingly a good deal where others are asking $35, $40 & even $42. Sadly this is yet another wine I have not had the opportunity to try, so I can only recommend it on the basis of it being priced better here than in other places I found it for sale. It can be found elsewhere online for between $33-$42. -

I'm still recovering from sleep deprived trip out West, but want to post a quick wine deal before the Hallmark Valentine holiday. So $15 seems to be a pretty good deal. Bonny Doon's Muscat Vin Glaciere is a dessert wine made (in the style of Ice wine) by a producer I have spoken of before and think highly of. Enjoy! -
VIGNA UVA VINO | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2008 A Taste of International Varietals at Italian Wine Merchants And for $50 I got to sample 6 excellent wines, so in my book it's a great deal. Most of the wines I talk about in this blog don't go for more that $20, But last weekend I treated myself to a tasting at Italian Wine Merchants (Founded by Sergio Esposito, Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich) and sampled six wines from various regions in Italy. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 2008 By the Glass - Restaurant and Wine Bar Edition So I'm going to be one of those unfashionable people who will order a Santa Maddalena (the name of the DOC), and you're going to have to just deal with it. I went back to Black Mountain Wine House , this time with an old buddy, and we grabbed prime seats at the bar for the evening. Turned out to be a real winner. They're all like that. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2008 Pineau des Charentes And here in the US, you don't have to deal with the social connotations of ordering Pineau, as you would in France. Imagine a night out on the town, walking into a hip club, a couple of lovely gents or ladies at the bar, whatever your preference. What on earth are you thinking, pal?!? Maybe they order apricot schnapps over there. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2008 Non-Dosage Champagne What's the big deal? It is a really big deal, as it turns out. If you're anything like me then you've been thinking recently about non-dosage Champagne. mean, who wouldn't be - it's such an interesting issue. Non-dosage Champagne has no sweetener added to the wine used to top up the bottle after disgorgement. No sugar? -

Inquire within or by phone: (212) 505-WINE for a couple of decades now and the fad has worn off a bit but when Miles voiced his proclamation it only sealed the deal ( I have a theory that I'm not able to dive too far into in this post but you can check out these links for ramblings on merlot versus pinot noir ). So the Alphabet City Wine Co. We hope to continue on the assist. Cheers -
EAST VILLAGE WINE GEEK | THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2007 Here Is My Little Therory.Am I Nuts? So here's the deal. The United States as of 2010 (some say 2008) will be the number one wine consuming country in the world. am going to just put it out there and see what comes of it. Pinot noir is huge right now. Sideways helped that happen. So I see the U.S. feel that the 1990's were good and bad to merlot in the United States. | |
