WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2010 Glen Ellen Proprietor's Reserve Petite Sirah 2007 from Concannon recieved a Chardonnay and a Petite Sirah. A few weeks ago I received two bottles of Glen Ellen wine and my first thoughts were 'why?' BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2010 Brooklyn Blind Tasting Panel #5 - 2007 Bourgogne Aligoté It needs to be picked later than Chardonnay. A WINE STORY | TUESDAY, MAY 11, 2010 Wine Review: Fess Parker Wines Recently I received two chardonnays from Fess Parker (both Ashley's / Sta Rita Hills). The 2007 is a pretty medium gold color, with a nose of melted butter and ripe apples. This could account possibly for the oak-ier flavor of the 2007. You would know instantly that this is a Burgundy Chardonnay if it were served to you blind - it is that clean and true. The nose has great freshness, the citrus and Chardonnay fruit ripe and detailed, and saturated with stony minerals. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 2009 The Pickyeater's BBQ Here are some that moved me, along with a few impressions: 1995 Mount Eden Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains - if California wine tasted like this, I would drink lots of California wine. 2007 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py - really a pretty wine with lively and enticing fruit, and it puts on weight with air time. Top notch wine. -

SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting Difficult to compare to recent vintages (which have all included at least some cabernet franc or petit verdot) this is less flamboyant than the 2006 and 2007, and will benefit from extended cellaring. This chardonnay, like Eric's previous two vintages, is impossible to resist. There is no short answer. All are superb. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2009 Technique and Terroir in the Jura Chardonnay in his hands is really just a vehicle for expressing soil. His 2007 Fleur de Chardonnay comes from 45 year old vines on chalky, rocky soil. 2006 Chardonnay La Reine is from deep red clay soils and is the most citric of the lineup, with clean grapefruit flavors. And they are quite different from one another. -
SLAKED | FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 2009 My Beach Party Animal Sauvignon I tasted the 2007 Shinn Estate Vineyards Coalescence ** blind, and I thought it was Sancerre, but with more citrus. SLAKED | TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2009 Napa Valley Vintners In New York Their Chardonnay ** and second red wine, called Salus ** were also very good. Lail Vineyards was pouring the Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2007 which is just such an individualistic Napa Valley white that it really needs to be tasted to be understood. Welcome Napa Valley Vintners! Yes, it’s cold and dreary in New York. didn’t even try. -
DR. VINO | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2009 Truth and fiction: Ross Schwartz, screenwriter of Bottle Shock, the movie It loosely depicts the events of the Paris tasting of 1976 when a Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and a Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon surprised the wine world by beating their French peers in a blind tasting. So Ross Schwartz told the assembled group at the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers in Napa last week. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, JANUARY 2, 2009 Friday Night Bubbles Cuvée Laetitia is the house's top wine (along with the newer and in my opinion, less successful Cuvée Julie), also a solera wine, and is oddly, mostly Chardonnay. The bottle we drank was disgorged in October of 2007, and I'm glad we gave it a year. Most of this post already appeared on Jeremy Parzon's Do Bianchi. -
ALICE FEIRING | MONDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2008 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas It would be far too easy to choose the 2006 Clos Roche Blanche Cot or the 2007 Gamay or a Breton and so I thought, nothing. And if someone tries to poach it from them (importers, beware) I will come and throw oaky chardonnay all over their fine wool suits or Wolford body stockings. DR. VINO | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2008 The best box wines of 2008 “From the tank, Estezargues, 2007. The best of their offerings, in my view, are the BOHO Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay (about $20 for 3L; find this wine ). The Chardonnay is also restrained in it’s oak effect, a good thing in my view. “Merry Christmas! “Here’s 24 liters of wine! -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2008 Day Before Thanksgiving Tidbits Anyway, on this afternoon I witnessed the following exchange: Man with two young kids: Excuse me, I bought two bottles of Yellowtail Chardonnay here last week and they were both corked. Is it even physically possible for Yellowtail Chardonnay to be corked? There was a second bottle present, so we tasted that one too. -

WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2008 Wine starts in the Vineyard - Golan Heights Winery Starting with the whites I was quite impressed by the quality of the entry level 2007 Golan Sion Creek White. While at the other end of the wine sophistication spectrum, the 2005 Yarden Katzrin Chardonnay is a BIG golden chardonnay with toffee, caramel, nutty aromas and a creamy palate that finishes long with all sorts of complexities. -
VIGNA UVA VINO | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2008 artiCHoke CHicken CHardonnay CHile Here is Montes Classic Series Chardonnay in a 2007 vintage, from Curico Valley in Chile. Fermented in 75% American Oak and 25% stainless steel with colors of pale golden green, and scents of buttery pineapple and tropical fruits. On the palate is a fresh fruitiness (some lychee and ginger) mixed with vanilla ice cream. Damn good. -
WINE TASTING GUY | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2008 Carmel's quality wine revolution Prior to visiting the winery today I tried their LOW LEVEL supermarket 2007 "Private Collection" Cab/Merlot blend. The 2007 Carmel Ridge White, a blend of sauvignon blanc (50%), Chardonnay (20%), semillion (15%) & french Colombard (15%) had a hint of effervescence to go along with its crisp acidity & pink grapefruit characteristics. -
SLAKED | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2008 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Artemis" 2006 and "Karia" 2006 tasted the Artemis cabernet sauvignon and Karia chardonnay only briefly. I'd like to say just briefly that when I visited the property in Napa Valley in January 2007 I was amazed at the high quality of the estate wines. I visited Sherry Lehmann yesterday to meet Warren Winarski of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. The 2004 S.L.V. -
SLAKED | SUNDAY, AUGUST 10, 2008 Vacation Whites, etc. My previous experience with this wine, at a Wine Spectator tasting in 2007, was phenomenal. The 2003 Kistler "Dutton Ranch" Russian River Valley Chardonnay was a pale gold color, with petrol and a little rubbery funk on the nose that dissipated as the wine opened up to reveal lemon meringue pie and custard notes. -
WINE TASTING GUY | WEDNESDAY, JULY 2, 2008 Where on earth is Aragon? Of the 4 whites, 1 was a Chardonnay, 2 were blends (both were 80% "Macabeo" [AKA Viora & often used in Spanish sparkling wine or "CAVA"] & 20% Chardonnay) and the 4th was a beautiful bone dry Muscat. The Chardonnay, the 2007 Aragus Campo de Borja was unoaked and had a very lite yellow/straw color. It is in Spain. -
