DR. VINO | TUESDAY, JUNE 29, 2010 Tasting the hand and the land at Hirsch Vineyards So it was that the 1997 Chardonnay that we tasted was made by Williams-Selyem but the 2007 was from Hirsch Vineyards. The 2007 Hirsch, although nobody’s going to confuse it with Chablis, was definitely leaner, with higher acidity and lower alcohol: voluptuousness was replaced by more restraint. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2010 Brooklyn Blind Tasting Panel #5 - 2007 Bourgogne Aligoté It needs to be picked later than Chardonnay. But most producers simply weren't devoting that kind of attention to Aligoté and it made more sense to pull out the vines and replant with either Chardonnay or Pinot. Here are the wines we drank, along with some notes: 2007 A. Honestly, who drinks Aligoté? Old vines don't hurt either. -
Chablis Night We had a bunch of people over for dinner this weekend for Chablis night. Everyone brought along a bottle of Chablis, I made dinner, and we enjoyed eating, drinking, and hanging out. In part, this was inspired by this Chablis post and the reaction to it by Kristin, Henriot's marketing director. But close. Lovely wine. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, MARCH 7, 2010 Tidal Pool A few years ago I spent a lot of money on two bottles of Chablis , money that I wish I could have back right now. Chablis is a difficult wine to get spendy with, assuming you want to drink Chablis that shows real Chablis character. I'm not sure that I would buy William Fèvre's wine again if I were paying $75 for Chablis.

A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2010 How to Train Yourself to Memorize Varietal Characteristics And since Chardonnay is such a popular grape, and Burgundy, France, such a respected region, you decide to go in this direction. Yet as your eyes scan the enormous wine list, you see the various regions: Chablis, Meursault, and Puligny-Montrachet (and dozens of others). 2007 Jean Collet Chablis Vielles Vignes. -

ALICE FEIRING | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2007 Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas » How Natural is Natural: the Debate November 28, 2007 The irrepressible Clark Smith has a l-o-n-g editorial up on Appellation America. Hank on November 29, 2007 01:16 AM I had a conversation with a scent expert recently. Phil on November 29, 2007 11:29 PM Alcie, I very much enjoyed Clarks read - he really is a clever fellow.I -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2007 WBW # 39 Announced - Silver Burgundy I think of endlessly beguiling and beautiful Pinot Noir, and also of Chardonnay - crystalline, tense, and rich. Some of you are wondering "well why did Brooklynguy exclude Chablis and Beaujolais from his Silver Burgundy thing?" Here's why: Chablis is unique, and probably deserves its own WBW event. Is this even possible? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2007 San Diego Trip Food and Wine Hafner Cabernet and Chardonnay are house wines at pop-in-law's. 2002 Domaine William Fevre 2002 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros , price unknown but probably about $45. I always enjoy visiting the in-laws in the San Diego area. My pop-in-law, through his work, is the recipient of many a lavish wine gift. Quite good with our steaks. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2007 WBW #36 - Naked Chardonnay So this month's theme is Naked Chardonnay , or un-oaked Chardonnay. From the late '80s through the late '90s ( all dates are approximate , and cannot be confirmed ) Chardonnay was generic swill that the masses got when ordering white wine. Just give me a Chardonnay. So why naked or un-oaked Chardonnay? Many more. | |
