| A WINE STORY APRIL 30, 2011 “They Have a Dream” at Hospice du Rhone 2011 Their 2006 Collioure Magenca Rouge is a blend with grenache, mouvedre, and carignan - all old vines. He grows Carignan, Syrah, Mouvedre and Grenache. The 2007 Les Dentelles is a blend of 50 grenache and 50 Carignan Noir (80 years). The next wine is the 2007 Hugo. The 2nd wine is 100% Carignan planted in 1903. | | | VIGNA UVA VINO NOVEMBER 22, 2011 More Wines for Thanksgiving Francis Winery Sonoma County Old Vines Zinfandel, 2008 California The average age of the vines here are 80-100 years old, and actually is 89% Zin, and the rest a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Mourverdre, Carignane, Syrah and Petite Sirah. The vines are an assortment of varieties, co-planted in the vineyard here and there, and include mostly zinfandel but also carignane, petite sirah, and matarao (mourvedre). We concluded our tasting with the Geyserville Essence 2007, a late harvest zin, Ridge-style only available at the tasting room or mailing list. The lay of the land. MORE >> -

2007 Black Russian Red - 30 Month Barrel Reserve made from Saperavi and Sereksiya Charni grapes which are unique to the McGregor Vineyards on Keuka Lake. blend of 40% Grenache, 25% Cinsault, 15% Carignan, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The reds are made primarily of Grenache and Mourvèdre, and there are many other grapes added in smaller proportions, like Cinsault, Syrah, Carignan, Petit Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and then local varieties such as Muscat Noir, Castet, Manosquin, and Brun-Fourca. absolutely loved the wine and I was still thinking about it this morning. For the reds, the De Martino El Leon Vineyard Carignan 2007 (Maule) was also very delicious, full bodied yet elegant. We tasted many examples today. lots of Torrantes from different producers. really liked Chilean Valle de la Puerta la Puerta 2010 from La Rioja -- very elegant with juicy citrus and a touch of tangerine.
