I'm not sure yet where I stand on 2005, as I've had some wines that are more about ripeness and grape character than they are about terroir. But close. -

VINO | THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 2009 Australian Riesling - Can it age? - Grosset, Steingarten and Leo Buring The youngest Riesling I’ve tasted was a tank sample of the 2009 Jacob’s Creek Steingarten Riesling. The tank sample was brimming with citrus intensity but not yet really formed as a wine. The 2005, by contrast, was in a very nice spot, exhibiting more muted lime and floral character. Quite delicious. -

From Friuli, Italy comes the Schiopettino grape once thought to be lost to extinction from the Phylloxera epidemic of the 19th century. On the nose are waves of chocolate, oak, cherries, and dried fruits set against a palate of concentrated sour cherries with a balanced acidity and dry finish. -

Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. Great stuff. -

An exceptional vintage like 2005 means that the quality of the wines from everyone is racheted up: normally good producers make very good wine; very good producers make exceptional wine, etc. 2005 Bordeaux in my experience has had a somewhat mixed showing thus far. -

Mostly Carignan, with some Grenache and Syrah thrown in, the 2005 Domaine des 2 Anes Corbieres Fontanilles was smooth and supple, ripe and complex. Turned out to be a real winner. Okay, but I loved this wine, the 2006 Cantina Santa Maddalena St. It is all tank. -

That's a fun thing to do on a summer evening though, so no complaints. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2007 Following up on a Buying Strategy Idea have been sampling some older experiments using this strategy, a few 2001 Pinots from Oregon and Burgundy, 2002 was considered the star vintage in both regions. 2005 is supposed to be an incredible vintage, and from the little I have tasted so far, it's not hype - the wines are amazing. So beautiful. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2006 WBW 27 - Icewine Dessert wine is costly in general, yes, but when sampling a new type of wine there are usually lower priced versions to begin with, for example, there are $12 half bottles of Sauternes or Barsac that allow the taster to decide whether or not to continue trying that type of wine.
