Making wines exclusively grown in the Golan Heights region on its volcanic soils (a result of two volvano eruptions - the most recent a short million years ago), GHW (Golan Heights Winery) grows 22 varietals and produces close to 30 wines. | WINE TASTING GUY OCTOBER 19, 2008 Carmel's quality wine revolution Prior to visiting the winery today I tried their LOW LEVEL supermarket 2007 "Private Collection" Cab/Merlot blend. The 2005 Appellation Carignan, made from 30-40 year old vines and blended with 10% Petite Verdot had an interesting toffee, mocha, chocolate, cedar thing going on. YES, that Carmel, of the sweet, thick sacramental wine. | | | | | | | WINE TASTING GUY SEPTEMBER 27, 2008 Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30 No Merlots (OK, maybe 1) and no Cab's (OK, maybe 1 or 2). The 2003 is drinking great, the 2004 is delicious and the just released 2005 is gorgeous. Those are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot & Malbec. The Dalton Alma , a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is a nice wine that is priced right. | | | |
