DR. VINO | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2011 Erwan Faiveley at the helm And in 2005 when Erwan was 25, his father continued the tradition and put Erwan in charge (Erwan himself has no children, so his position is likely safe for 25+ years). So when Erwan took over in 2005, he was careful not to rock the boat. It’s no secret in Burgundy and beyond that Faiveley has been on a roll. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2011 Comparing the 2008 and 2009 Vintages in Burgundy via Domaine Fourrier If you are categorizing, I think that 2009 is a vintage that can be grouped with 2005 - growers achieved high levels of ripeness and did so without having to sort out a lot of grapes. Not as perfect as 2005, but this is a vintage of big wines that should age well. 2009 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2009 By the Glass - Burgundy Complaints Edition 2005 Lafouge Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses , $27. 2005 Domaine des Croix Bourgogne , $25. 2005 Catherine et Claude Maréchal Bourgogne Cuvée Gravel , $25. 2005 René LeClerc Bourgogne , $25. Very pure and good intensity of fruit, and shows an orange zest earthiness that for me is very Gevrey-Chambertin. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, JANUARY 18, 2009 Final Burgundy Trip Tidbits On Chambertin Clos de Beze - "If you close your eyes, this is like a white wine. There is no label on the 1978 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes. That unlabeled half bottle behind the decanter is the 2005 Domaine Dujac Clos St. I'm having fun with these but I'm guessing that you've had your fill. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2008 Domaine Dujac Barrel Tasting Jeremy and most of the other wine makers we spoke with agreed that 2005 is a phenomenally ripe vintage that will age for a long time. Such ripeness and structure as in 2005 doesn't always lead to a balanced and graceful drink after 15 years. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes - Whoops, now we're at at least $200.

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2008 Good Beef, Villages Wine, and Buying Strategy I'm talking about Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin, Chandon de Briailles Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses, Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fournaux, Lafarge Volnay Villages, things like that? If you feel the need to snub my 3 bottles of $28 2005 Lafouge Auxey-Duresses1er Cru La Chapelle, so be it And it was. -
SLAKED | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2008 Domaine de la Guyonnière Gevrey-Chambertin The word that comes to mind as you sip Antonin Guyon's 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin ** is searing. found this bottle in the basement refrigerator recently, shortly after I had purchased its younger sibling, the 2005 *, for which there are no words to adequately describe, but I digress. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2008 5% of the Tip of the Terroir Iceberg That Aux Combottes and Clos St Jacques make vastly different wines, even though they are both vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin. In extremely ripe vintages (recently 2003 and 2005), the nuances of terroir can take a back seat to the aromas and flavors of ripe fruit. This is the first Burgundy Trip 2008 post. Quite the opposite. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2008 Dressner Portfolio Tasting Notes The 2006's from Chidaine are quite good, although if you're used to the 2005's they will seem light. The 2006's are probably typical and the 2005's are probably extra rich and intense. My favorite was the 2006 Clos Habert , a demi-sec wine that I also love in 2005. The Italian wines - I didn't taste 'em. How thoughtful is that? -
SLAKED | FRIDAY, JULY 11, 2008 Craft Restaurant NYC 2005 Dom. There's very little information about this domaine online, but from what I can gather, the proprietors have 32 acres in Burgundy (no small amount) with parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey St.-Denis, I recently reconnected with an old high school friend on that greatest killer of time: Facebook. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2008 Wine Splurge Update Back in January I lamented my past wine splurge results. Many of you commented with excellent suggestions, some of which I wound up using for Splurge 2007. Yeah, just like the NY State legislature, my budget comes out later than it's supposed to. But the good news is that I had a little more to spend than the $400 that I originally planned on. -
WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2008 Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally) And finally the Peay 2005 "La Bruma" Estate Syrah, which I was told came from a very cool Syrah site, was also not a fruit bomb like some of the other Syrah's I tried. based on prices it was actually the cheapest of their 3 Pinots, the 2005 Etude "Temblor" Pinot Noir. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. Great stuff. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2008 2005 Bourgogne - a Few Favorites 2005 in Burgundy is one of those vintages in which all wines can be great. Yes, in 2005, some producers made humble regional wines that will knock your socks off. Their 2005 Bourgogne will run you more than $25 anyway. There are plenty of solid producers who made fantastic regional wine in 2005. And forth. What about you? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 2008 So Far, I Stink at the Wine Splurge Following is a list of Brooklynguy's splurge wines from the past two years or so, some in the cellar, some just a memory, in order of price: 2002 Dominique Gallois Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers , $50, 2 bottles. 2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Faconnieres , $50, 3 bottles. Why $50? Good buy. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2007 WBW # 39 Announced - Silver Burgundy think of Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romaneé, Gevrey-Chambertin, and the storied villages of the Côte de Nuits, and also of Puligny, Meursault, Volnay, and the other superstars of the Côte de Beaune. There are also excellent reds to be found in Gevrey. What do you think of when you hear "Burgundy?" Is this even possible? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2007 Red Burgundy from the Martin Scott Portfolio One thing I want to say right here and right now is that I think you can spend between $30-$60 per bottle and get a case of stupendous 2005 red Burgundy. That 2005 Simon Bize was really beautiful. wonder how the other 2005 Bize wines are.anyone taste them yet? How do I know this? And that one was from me when I re-read the post. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2007 A Fantastic 2005 Bourgogne 2005 Burgundy is nuts. Liking a Bourgogne does not necessarily mean that you will like the same winemaker's Gevrey-Chambertin or the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques. 2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne , $24 (Chambers Street Wines). refuse to sit this out though, this 05 Burgundy craze. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2007 Nuits-Saint-Georges: Some Questions If you take the train from Paris to Dijon and drive south to Burgundy, you go through Marsannay (an up-and-coming appellation), then Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Flagey-Echezeaux, and Vosne-Romanee, the powerhouses of red wine production in Burgundy. Why is this? This just doesn't make sense to me. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2007 Following up on a Buying Strategy Idea 2005 is supposed to be an incredible vintage, and from the little I have tasted so far, it's not hype - the wines are amazing. And if by some miracle I were to find a bottle of 2005 JF Mugnier Musigny, I bet it will cost $375 or so. Results are mixed so far - some good wines, some disappointing wines. So beautiful. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2006 Holiday Wine Dinner We had 2005 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Aligote with the soup, and it was exactly as it should be - light, crisp, clean tasting, briny and citrusy acidity. 1995 Domaine Newman Latricieres Chambertin. We went a little over the top for this holiday version of Wine Dinner. BrooklynLady and I put together the rest of the wine. loved it. | |
