It was called the Association Commerciale Vinicole de l'Arrondissement de Beaune. "This is absolutely fantastic!" The clever thing is that ALL the wines are tasted blind.

    Erwan Faiveley at the helm
And in 2005 when Erwan was 25, his father continued the tradition and put Erwan in charge (Erwan himself has no children, so his position is likely safe for 25+ years). So when Erwan took over in 2005, he was careful not to rock the boat. It’s no secret in Burgundy and beyond that Faiveley has been on a roll.

    Mid-term Cellaring Results
2005 Paul Pernot Beaune Clos du Dessus des Marconnets , $23, Fruit of the Vines Imports. Not too long ago I retrieved some wine from off-site storage, things that I meant to drink at about this point in their lives (and in mine), and also a few things to check in on. The results have not been terribly impressive so far. Live and learn.

But the 2005 Domaine William Fèvre Grand Cru Le Clos, those bottles were an expensive mistake. In a very ripe vintage like 2005, the character of the vintage can easily overshadow the expression of terroir. Closer in quality to the top guns than Savigny-lès-Beaune is to Chambertin. paid up for the wrong vintage.

    Dressner Portfolio Tasting Notes
The 2006's from Chidaine are quite good, although if you're used to the 2005's they will seem light. The 2006's are probably typical and the 2005's are probably extra rich and intense. My favorite was the 2006 Clos Habert , a demi-sec wine that I also love in 2005. The Italian wines - I didn't taste 'em. How thoughtful is that?

Classic," or normal vintages in Burgundy can often present good value (although prices haven't really dropped much from the astronomical 2005's), but can require lots of splashing around in order to identify the wines you like enough to buy multiple bottles. In a normal year good wine makers make good wine. But that's part of the fun.

    2005 Bourgogne - a Few Favorites
2005 in Burgundy is one of those vintages in which all wines can be great. Grapes were harvested without a lot of rot or other damage, even from plots that qualify only for the regional designation of Bourgogne, Côte de Beaune Villages, or Côte de Nuits Villages. Their 2005 Bourgogne will run you more than $25 anyway.

think of Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romaneé, Gevrey-Chambertin, and the storied villages of the Côte de Nuits, and also of Puligny, Meursault, Volnay, and the other superstars of the Côte de Beaune. The Dreaded Dumb Phase
2005 Paul Pernot Beaune Clos du Dessus des Marconnets is a beautiful wine and a great value (between $23-30, depending on where you shop) in a wonderful but expensive Burgundy vintage. Common wisdom holds that good Pinot Noir should be consumed either while young, or left alone to mature in the cellar for at least five years. Anyway.

    A Fantastic 2005 Bourgogne
2005 Burgundy is nuts. I've basically accepted the fact that the bulk of my 05 Burgundy will be from the Cote de Beaune. 2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne , $24 (Chambers Street Wines). Another White Stunner from 2005 Burgundy
I am finding that the un-oaked whites from the "lesser" regions of Burgundy are just fantastic in 2005. The two "lesser" regions I refer to are the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais, both south of the Cote de Beaune and north of Beaujolais. That they are reasonably priced makes the whole thing happy for everyone. Just a point of inf

    Nuits-Saint-Georges: Some Questions
Many hundreds in better vintages (good luck saving up for the 2005's). And because of its close proximity to the Cotes de Beaune with its glorious whites from Montrachet and Mersault, but less stellar, more uneven reds, the wines of Nuits-Saint-Georges can be overlooked when thinking about great reds of Burgundy. Why is this?

    My First 2005 Burgundy Bottles

    Louise Perrin in Aloxe-Corton
Just a 10 minute drive from Beaune, the "largest" city in the immediate area, you can easily access restaurants and wineries in the Cotes de Beaune and the Cotes de Nuits. Pernand Vergelesses, Corey-Les-Beaunes, and Ladoix are right nearby, and many vignerons who make Aloxe-Corton wines also make wines from the nearby villages.
