    Memorable Pairings of 2011
It is a new release called La Bout du Clos, a wine made entirely from that same vineyard in Ambonnay, from the 2004 vintage. This bottle comes entirely from 2008 and is a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Well, of the last few months anyway. So I'll compile them in a best-of-the-unposted list from the last part of 2011.

The lanky, California maker of pinot noir, chardonnay, and syrah told me at his Sonoma winery that he had his conversion in 2005, after returning from a trip to Burgundy and the Rhone. Sadly, a 2004 pinot (I don’t recall which vineyard) was corked but it would have been fun to taste the change in winemaking styles in the glass.

    Day in Napa
As to the wines I started with the 2006 Chardonnay that only sees 5% new oak & is put through no malolactic fermentation. It was a nice Chardonnay and for the price ($28 suggested) a nice buy relative to some of the other $50+ Napa Chards. had a 2004 " The Sisters " Cab made with 8% Cab Franc. Nice wines. NOT A FRUIT BOMB.

    Polaner tasting standouts
began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. He wants his wines to show a nice purity of fruit (Chardonnay) and as such uses large 600 liter (mostly neutral) barrels. Made from Chardonnay, this wine had an exploding bouquet.

    Polaner Spring Portfolio Tasting, 2008
The Vouvray Brut was tasty as usual, but my goodness, the 2004 Vouvray Brut (only in magnum for some reason) was just fantastic. The 2005 Domaine de Roally Viré Clessé has an intoxicating nose that screams "pure Chardonnay!" I went to the Polaner Spring Portfolio Tasting today at Gotham Hall in Manhattan. Pinon's wines. Not with M.

Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
And their 2004 "Right Bank" Red, a blend of Cab Franc (53%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (9%) & Cab Sauv (8%) was beautiful. enjoyed a nice Pinot Gris & Chardonnay of theirs. The 2004 Cab was a little jammy with full fruit, a nice round body and a very nice finish. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high.

    2004 Napa Valley Chardonnays
2004 Far Niente Napa Valley Chardonnay Yellow gold. Excellent, and to my mind the best Chardonnay in Napa after Kongsgaard. 2004 Peter Michael Mon Plaisir Gorgeously pure pale yellow gold. Overt black licorice, anise seed, and gobs of vanilla. Restrained nose of hay and anise and fresh cut grass. Hints at petrol, too.

    Jura Tasting
Alright, maybe the 2004 Puffeney Arbois Pinot Noir , $27, was okay, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about. 2004 Tissot Arbois Poulsard , $18. 2004 Puffeney Arbois Pinot Noir, $27. Whites 2004 Montbourgeau L'Etoile Blanc , $21 - tastes like sherry, but better than any sherry I've had. Not even a little bit.

    Gambero Rosso Tasting
The only other reds that I really liked at the whole tasting were the 2004 Poliziano Nobile de Montepulciano Asinone and the 2003 Terre degli Svevi Aglianico del Vulture Serpara. I wasn't going to write about this because I don't have much of anything nice to say. But I've been persuaded to just do it anyway, to tell you what I thought.

White 2004 Vergé Viré-Clessé Vieille Vignes - barnyard funk is overpowering on the nose. 2007 Haut la Vigne Côtes de Duras - 50-50 chardonnay and semillon. Red 2004 Peyra Côtes d'Auvergnes - somewhere between the south-eastern edge of the Loire and the north-western Rhône is Côtes d'Auvergnes. Maybe a bit of both.

also tasted Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs, Pinot Biancos, Gewurtztraminers, Sylvaners, Muller Thurgaus, and a few whites which were blends of some of the aforementioned varietals. Israeli wine tasting - Castel & Binyamina
The evening started with a 2004 Sauvignon Blanc from the Binyamina winery.  The guests were then treated to The "C" by Castel 2006 Chardonnay.  The Kosher Wine Society hosted a tasting tonight with Israeli winemakers from the Castel & Binyamina wineries. Sauv Blanc, when not oaked, is generally a wine that should be consumed young.

Five Nights of Oregon Pinot - Part V
Among the whites there are a Pinot Gris, a Pinot Blanc, and a Chardonnay every year. Alright, so how about the 2004 St Innocent Pinot Noir Shea , ($32 from the winery)? We return to Shea Vineyard on this, the fifth and final night of our Oregon Pinot festival. festival that took place right here in the confines of our own apartment.

Belle Pente bottles a range of whites, including a Pinot Gris, a Riesling, a Gewurztraminer, and of course a Chardonnay. Here are my notes on the wine: 2004 Belle Pente Pinot Noir Estate Reserve ($38 at Great Wine Buys in Portland). Our second wine more than made up for the disappointment of the first night.

Silver Burgundy Dinner - WBW 39 Preview
Jean-Claude is the third generation vigneron and his impressive stable of Chardonnay wines includes St Veran, a Mâcon-Pierreclos, and several other village wines, some under the name Domaine de la Bongran. Thévenet makes a sparkling wine too, a Blanc de Blancs (a sparkling wine made entirely of white grapes, usually Chardonnay).

Martin Scott Portfolio Continued - White Burgundy
comment before getting started: I continue to notice that I seem to prefer the style of the 2004 vintage over the 2005 for whites in Burgundy. 2005 D omaine Simon Bize & Fils Bourgogne Chardonnay (8, I) The value white of the tasting without question. Lucky for me, since you have to pay far more for the same wines in '05.

2004 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs (8) I was excited to try Schramsberg wines, as I understand them to be the creme de la creme of American sparkling wine. 2004 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Noirs (7+) A little funk on the nose, sweet berry and brown sugar flavors. 2004 Schramsberg Vineyards Brut Rose (7+) 66% Chardonnay here.

good bottle of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, or Chardonnay from Long Island usually costs the same as a better bottle of wine from elsewhere. started out by following Lenn around, took his guided tour of Long Island whites, tasting many a Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. My 5's 2004 Eric Texier Cote-Rotie , $62 - This Northern Rhone Syrah was lighter than his other reds, incredibly intense nose of roasted meat and herbs, olives and soil. 2004 Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissee , $29 - Baudry's top cuvee, from old vines in clay and gravel, aged in wood barrels. hauled my butt into Manhattan (!)

    Dinner with the In-Laws
2004 Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Wintzenheim, $28. This is a late harvest blend of mostly Chardonnay (65-70% I think), Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. That phrase alone is enough to send shivers down the spine of many of us. For the last dinner of this visit I decided to whip up something special, a little bit festive. want some now.

    A Hidden Gem
Cheverny wines are a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, with the Sauvignon Blanc the primary grape at about 70%. None was produced in balmy 2003, but my heart is gladdened to see the 2004 Francois Cazin Cour-Cheverny Cuvee Renaissance, $18 in stores. I hesitate to do this, because right now it's still basically a secret.

Stag's Leap Cellars was rolling out their new chardonnay at BLT Fish; someone just canceled would I like to attend. They have a line of cabernet and chardonnay that truly reflect what the state has to offer. The wine was the Stag's Leap 2004 Arcadia chardonnay. I'm just a wine geek. Food, company, atmosphere. Some New York Wines
We emerged from our tasting there with a few bottles of their 2002 Cabernet Franc Reserve and a 375 ml of a 2004 zippy desert wine made from late harvest chardonnay called Allegra. The 2004 Gewurtztraminer had wonderful aromas of litchi and other tropical fruits, but didn't have the palate to go with the scents. 2005 Hermann J.
