    1988 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello
From 95% cabernet sauvignon, with 3% merlot and 2% petit verdot.makes me think they should add 2% petit verdot to the final blend of the 2008, in an attempt to recreate the longevity of the sweetness here. Carmel's quality wine revolution
recently checked out some of their unique single varietal appellation wines (Carignan & Petite Sirah) and was so (surprisingly) impressed by their quality that I included them in a blog post  with some recommendations.  My favorites of the day were still the appellation Carignan and Petite Sirah.  And taste I did.

Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30
The 2003 is drinking great, the 2004 is delicious and the just released 2005 is gorgeous.  And two wines in their appellation series that are of interest are the Carmel "old vine" Carignan & the Carmel Petit Sirah.  Those are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Also from Galil Mt.

    Wine club BBQ
We started with a 2004 Chateau La Blancherie White Bordeaux that was crisp, cool & refreshing. In previous posts I've mentioned a wine club I have joined. joined upon returning to NYC from Napa in search of other wine-curious individuals. Four of the six participants have some affiliation with the wine industry. THANKS!

    NorCal day 2: Sonoma
Zinfandel is a very common varietal in Sonoma county and I tried 2 Zins at Sausal; the 2004 Family Zinfandel & the 2005 Private reserve Zin. It was actually the 2004 "old vine" Estate Alexander Valley Zin that I liked most. tried to get down a "bug juice" of sorts that was simply awful. Maybe he simply lacked personality. Ahhhh.

    Day in Napa
Following the Cab I had a Petit Sirah and finished with an old vine Zin PORT that I REALLY enjoyed. The Zin was blended with about 7-8% Petit Sirah & a touch (about 1%) of Cab. had a 2004 " The Sisters " Cab made with 8% Cab Franc. My day began in LA with an early flight from LAX to SFO. Havens had some really nice wine.

Here are 7 of my most recent favorite inexpensive but good wines. alcohol.

    Polaner tasting standouts
His 2004 Neiman Cellars Napa Valley Red is a blend of 1/3 Cab Sauvignon, 1/3 Merlot, & 1/3 Cab Franc. Sadly Pam was not there, but her 2005 Cab Franc & 2004 Cab Sauv were. The 2004 C & S "Stone Place" Cabernet Sauvignon also had a very nice round & velvety mouth feel. don't know. great wine. Onto the reds.

Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines
No, not the Petit Sirah/Zin blend - another people know is a favorite of mine. Rather it was a 2004 (I think) Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. was told that the blend was an UNUSUAL one - containing Petit Verdot, Shiraz & Petit Sirah. Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. Well you want unusual, you got it!

Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
The 2003 "1er Etage" Cab Franc was blended with 2% Petit Verdot and had very subtle green notes but was was nice as well. And their 2004 "Right Bank" Red, a blend of Cab Franc (53%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (9%) & Cab Sauv (8%) was beautiful. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. Great stuff.

    Alto Adige Wines Grand Tasting
The Laimburg Winery "Selyet" Pinot Nero Riserva 2004 was a standout at a table of reserve Pinots. This blend of 20% Tannat (a grape originally from SW France), 30% Petit Verdot (a Bordeaux varietal) and 50% Lagrein was very nice. I was fortunate to be able to attend the Alto Adige Grand Tasting this afternoon. SWEET BUBBLE GUM.
