From Monterey, this was aged in 25% new wood, and was my favorite wine of the night. The 2008 Vin Gris de Cigare * was aromatic but a little flabby, while the 2003 Cigare Volant **/ and 2004 Cigare Volant ** each showed a little reduction. | WINE TASTING GUY MAY 25, 2008 Monterey Wine Country About an hour to an hour and a half South of San Francisco lay beautiful Monterey County. Famous for its coastline, golf courses & amazing aquarium, Monterey County is also home to a budding wine country, with 40,000 acres of vines planted. The event was well attended & represented. That said, many of the Monterey Pinots were in fact made in an elegant style. The one that really stood out to me was the Michaud 2004 Pinot Noir from the Chalone region.
