Domaine de la Janasse has several wines I was hoping to try but having skipped this table early on I was only able to taste the 2007 Janasse Cotes du Rhone Blanc. Eric Texier of The Rhone had some reds in addition to the whites I mentioned earlier. | | | | | | | WINE TASTING GUY FEBRUARY 6, 2008 Chateauneuf-Du-Pape tasting at Tribeca Grill This afternoon I attended a fabulous Chateauneuf du Pape (CDP for simplicity) tasting at The Tribeca Grill in downtown Manhattan. The tasting was seemingly co-sponsored by Le Du Wines and Alain Junguenet Selections. At that tasting we tasted through some 2004's and 2005's. This wine retails at Le Du's Wines for $44.19. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE MAY 5, 2008 Recession Wines - Wines Under $15 2006 D'Estezargues Cotes du Rhone Les Grandes Vignes, $13, Jenny & Francois Selections (100% Cinsault!). 2005 Domaine D'Aupilhac Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux, $13, Kermit Lynch Imports. 2004 Sandro Fay Rosso del Valtellina, $13.50, Omni Wines importer (100% Nebbiolo). range. Yup, it costs over $1.50 | SLAKED APRIL 14, 2008 Three red wines by the glass. Dom du Colombier 2004 Chinon * This is dark and medium-full bodied. Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone 2005 * Plum color. Uber dry with raspberry and bay leaf. Low acidity, and a decent chalky finish. I'm a sucker for good Chinon so this was very pleasing and almost deserves two stars. Spicy nose with red flowers. | SLAKED MARCH 7, 2008 2004 Coudoulet de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone ** Chalky plum purple. Prune, black pepper top notes. Medium body with good depth - prune, blackberries and mellow black pepper. Very long dry finish with chalky red berries. There is simply nothing technically wrong with this wine | | | | | | | | | -
SLAKED | MONDAY, JUNE 16, 2008 Seven Days Seven Wines My Chateauneuf du Pape craze seems to have subsided, and I worked through my case of under $20 wine weeks ago, but I have certainly benefitted from those two experiences. Domaine Mathieu Chateauneuf- du-Pape 2006 (blanc) * Lovely sweet aromas of petrol (sounds strange, right?) It's been a crazy week, sort of. Very enjoyable summer wine. MORE >> -
SLAKED | TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2008 Coudoulet de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone 2005 ** The 2005, while less aromatic and less accessible than the spectacular 2004, is denser, darker, and more robust. This was $30 at retail on the Upper West Side, which is a 50% price jump from the 2004, so it falls somewhere between house-wine price and Cellar Selection, but I'd still put a couple bottles aside to see how they evolve MORE >> -
SLAKED | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2008 Buying Wine in Mexico 2004 Mouton Cadet Bordeaux. 2004 Cantina Zuccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva * (Previously reviewed) Nice bright fruit this tasting, with good acidity and a lightly silty texture. Chapoutier "Belleruche" Cotes- du- Rhone * Tasted last at the City Winery. My advice on traveling to Mexico: Do what we did. MORE >>
