BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2011 Memorable Pairings of 2011 It is a new release called La Bout du Clos, a wine made entirely from that same vineyard in Ambonnay, from the 2004 vintage. This bottle comes entirely from 2008 and is a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Well, of the last few months anyway. So I'll compile them in a best-of-the-unposted list from the last part of 2011. -
A WINE STORY | TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2011 Visiting Domaine de la Perriere In 2004 he was able to buy out other family members so that he could make the wine he wants to make, and after my tasting today must concur it was fabulous. tried the 2008 which is a fabulous vintage and incredibly well balanced with racy acidity and that delicious cherry. “Your grandfather actaually used that press!” Yet it is true. -
A WINE STORY | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2011 London Lennie’s hosts Chateau La Gatte owner Franco-American couple Michael and Hélène Affatato purchased the1646-dated Chateau La Gatte in 2004, and enovated it into a B & B and winery. So very interesting to hear the colorful stories of people who sought out a winery, nursed it to fruition, and are now making a success of their wine. You can see some of the wines tasted below. -
A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2011 Pauillac Lunch with the Wine Media Guild Some of the wines tasted: Chateau Clerc-Milon: 1994, 2004, 2005, 2006. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24, 2011 Some of my Favorite Champagnes with Fried Food.Who Knew? With the oysters I drank a relatively unknown but incredibly delicious and interesting wine, the 2004 Michel Loriot Pinot Meunier Vieilles Vignes Brut , $75. The non-vintage Extra-Brut we drank was based on wines from 2007 and 2006, but because of the ripe richness of the wine, I guessed it was based on 2008. wines from Ambonnay.
-
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, AUGUST 18, 2011 Dinner and the Wines of Cédric Bouchard With this we drank two different Inflorescence Brut Blanc de Noirs , the 2008 and 2009. preferred the 2008 with its rich, resonant fruit and complex depth, its baseline of minerality. The 09 might be more of a wine to drink young, and the 2008 seems to be a great candidate for the cellar. It retails for about $85. -
DR. VINO | FRIDAY, MAY 13, 2011 Henschke Hill of Grace says goodbye screwcap, hello Vino-Lok The 2008 vintage of Henschke Hill of Grace has not yet been released. Stephen Henschke became enamored with the technology when he presented a paper at a conference in Germany in 2004. We will find out in the next year or so with the release of the 2008 Hill of Grace. The past few vintages have been entirely under screwcap. -
A WINE STORY | MONDAY, MAY 9, 2011 The New “Vidal-Fleury” Revolution … One of the highlights was the Cote Rotie Brune Et Blonde 2004, a very elegant wine culled from syrah on both the Cote Blonde (southern part, with soil consisting of gneiss covered by a top layer of siliceaous calcareous soil) and Cote Brune (northern part, with schist mixed with mica and iron oxide). Imagine yourself in Ampuis in 1781. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SUNDAY, APRIL 10, 2011 A Confederacy of Geekery Then we drank the 2008 Domaine Gauby Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes Les Calcinaires , $27, imported by Weygandt Metzler. Me neither. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6, 2011 An Evening with the Jura Wines of Domaine Ganevat Levi tested all of the wines before the dinner and at one point he said to me "The 2004 Les Chalasses.wow, it's drinking pretty well right now." Anyway, we drank Les Chalasses from 2004 and 2008, and I thought they were both excellent wines. Domaine Ganevat is in the Jura, in a town called Rotalier. And indeed it was. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23, 2011 Champagne News My favorite so far is the exquisite 2004 Quinte Essence Brut, made of 60% Pinot, 25% Meunier, and 15% Chardonnay from vineyards in Belval-sous-Châtillon (if I understood correctly). This release is mostly from the fantastic 2008 vintage, the balance is 2007. Isabelle and Franck Pascal, and their name tags. That's right.3 cases. -

DR. VINO | FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2011 How does cabernet franc age? A visit to Domaine Baudry The tannins are fine; the wine in 2009 exhibits fine tannins while the 2008 could benefit from more bottle age (or a good decant). I’d also venture that this wine would last a couple of decades and would like to buy a few bottles to tuck away for my son born in 2008. How does cabernet franc age? I’d tend to agree. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2011 Comparing the 2008 and 2009 Vintages in Burgundy via Domaine Fourrier Following my interview with Jean-Marie Fourrier, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend a Domaine Fourrier tasting that featured several wines from the 2008 and 2009 vintages. Equally instructive is tasting the same wines from 2008 and 2009. 2008 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux. Yes, 100 year old. -

WHY WINE BLOG | FRIDAY, AUGUST 13, 2010 Fontana Candida Frascati Superiore 2008 would have pulled out a nice Gewurztraminer if I had one, but settled for a Fontana Candida Frascati Superiore DOC 2008. Getting time to clean out the old wine fridge. Shirley keeps doing her part by challenging me to come up with a pairing for some of her weird dinner experiments. Here the grapes for Frascati are grown. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, AUGUST 9, 2010 Stoney Lonesome Estates, Reserve White Merlot 2008 Stoney Lonsesome Estates 2008 Reserve. I love it when Shirley decides to experiment in the kitchen. It either means we end up going out to dinner or I am in for a special treat. What I do know is that she cooked skinless chicken breast in apple juice with oyster mushrooms, slices of gala apples and diced mint fresh from the garden. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SATURDAY, JULY 31, 2010 Treleaven Wines Meritage 2007 I don't often go with Shirley and Pam to the Saturday morning Central New York Regional Farmer's Market, but I made an exception today. was also out of bed early enough to tag along, which is unusual. did stop at one and tasted their 2007 Meritage. It seems to be that the wine always is a bit different, no, a lot different than what I remembered. -

WHY WINE BLOG | WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 2010 Boho Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel 2008 3L I've been holding out on the wine reviews until everything gets back to normal after my surgery. At present, my Cardiologist has OK'd 3-4 oz. of wine per day and, for me, that just don't cut it. do cheat a bit and I also skip some evenings. That is what happened with the first bottles I opened. little lighter bodied than what I'm used to in Zin. -
A WINE STORY | MONDAY, JUNE 14, 2010 Visiting Valpolicella & Friuli Our next visit was the wines of Groupo Italiano Vini (GIV) which completed the acquisition of Bolla in 2008. Over lunch (risotto with Amarone and more delights) we tasted through the Valpolicella Classico and two 2004 Amarone, one from Seccal and one from Ambrosan with the cheese course. And New York? WHY WINE BLOG | THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 2010 Silver Birch Sauvignon Blanc 2009 3L Last March I posted a press release on a new collection of artisan wines in an innovative attractive new package. An international wine collection with six brands and ten items packaged in a new exciting premium 3L wine cask from the Octavin Home Wine Bar ™. The Chardonnay was not impressive. Definitely a good party wine. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, MAY 24, 2010 Chateau Lafayette Reneau dry and semidry Riesling 2008 This week I decided to open a dry and semi-dry from the same winery to compare and I chose one of the nicest Rieslings so far; Chateau Lafayette Reneau 2008. With May and New York Riesling month coming to close soon, it is safe to say that I tasted more Riesling this month than any one year in my life. Why, I'm not sure. Truly enjoyable. -
A WINE STORY | WEDNESDAY, MAY 19, 2010 Q/A with Dennis Cakebread of Cakebread Cellars Park Avenue Spring was a wonderful venue to showcase the wines - a creamy 2008 Chardonnay with a long crisp finish that paired well with the oyster, refreshing 2008 Sauvignon Blanc (tank-fermented and aged in neutral French Oak barrels), 2004 Pinot Noir (everyone's favorite!) "So what did the first winery look like?" -
WHY WINE BLOG | TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2010 Long Point Winery semi-dry Riesling 2008 My choice for the evening was a 2008 semi-dry Riesling( $14 ) from the Long Point Winery. This past Monday evening was a first for me on-line. Because of my work schedule and Shirley's extra long 'honey-do' list I never have the chance to do a tweet up on Twitter or follow a wine party on Facebook. All from the Seneca Lake wineries. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2010 Zugibe semi-dry Riesling 2008 The first one I opened was the Zugibe semi-dry 2008( $14 ). This past weeks edition of the Syracuse New Times, a weekly alternative newspaper published in Syracuse, New York, contained an interesting article on Finger Lakes Riesling. Evan is passionate about Finger Lakes wines and authors some of the most interesting articles on the subject. -
A WINE STORY | FRIDAY, MAY 14, 2010 Shrivington Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon really enjoyed the 2001 Shiraz, which received 98 points from Wine Advocate, though I enjoyed the 2008 equally well with its jammy red fruits and "inky black fruit over vanilla ice cream" character. The Shrivingtons' winemaker is Kim Jackson, who has been with them sicne the 2004 vintage. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2010 Brotherhood Dry Riesling 2008 The two wines we tasted were the 2008 Riesling and the 2008 'dry' Riesling. To continue Riesling month here in New York, I wanted to find something other than my favorites from the Finger Lakes region. Doing so seemed almost impossible. Brotherhood also happens to be America's oldest winery. Enough history. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, MAY 3, 2010 Red Tail Ridge semi-dry Riesling 2008 The 2008 Red Tail Ridge semi-dry Riesling was suggested by my sister-in-law. Just finished watching the movie "Avatar" while sipping on my first Riesling of the summer. Finger Lakes Riesling of course. This month is Riesling month in New York and this will be the first of many I'll enjoy over the next 30 days. Sound good? What else is better! -
WHY WINE BLOG | THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 2010 Conconnan Conservancy Peite Sirah 2007 Recently, the wife and I have been discussing a possible trip to California next year. few of the issues are for how long and where. Of course my choice would be Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley or Russian River Valley, the home of some of the best wines in the world. Oh, I'm sorry, did I leave out Paso Robles, Lodi, Central Coast or Livermore Valley. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2010 Brooklyn Blind Tasting Panel #4 - Inexpensive Provence Reds The next four wines were all quite good, and were preferred by some of us, enjoyed by all, and in no particular order: 2004 Domaine du Deffends Côteaux Varois Clos de la Truffière , $19, Robert Chadderdon Selections. 2008 Commanderie de Peyrassol Vin de Pays Portes Méditerraneé La Croix , $13, Neal Rosenthal Wine Merchant. DR. VINO | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 2010 Why is there so little Biodynamic wine in Bordeaux? And the note from Alfred Tesseron of Pontet-Canet: We started biodynamie for 14 hectares in 2004, in 2005 we did 100% on 81 hectares (200 acres), which is the total vineyard of Pontet-Canet so also for the vintage 2006. Over on Twitter, there was some confusion about the status of their Biodynamic certification. Here are their. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, MARCH 28, 2010 Rancho Zabaco Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Reserve 2004 The first of the Zin's I recently stocked up on is the Rancho Zabaco Dry Creek Valley 2004 Reserve. The 2004 vintage is 96% Zinfandel and 4% Petite Sirah. I'm leaving Chile(till later) and heading over to California to try a few more Zin's. Deep dark fruit aromas with some cherry. Hey, you're never too old to learn. Not that I am old?? -

WHY WINE BLOG | TUESDAY, MARCH 16, 2010 Concha y Toro Casillero del Diablo Carmenere 2008 Tonight I uncorked another Carmenere from Concha y Toro , the Casillero del Diablo 2008 Reserve. This is the third of the Carmenere wines I tasted this month. As I stated in my previous two articles, Carmenere is one of the wines I've pushed aside in the past, but have placed on a list to re-examine in 2010. I'm still not sold on Carmenere. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, MARCH 7, 2010 Concha y Toro Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere 2007 It's been a few years since I tasted Carmenere. If I remember right, it was a take it or leave it, nothing special, too many other fine wines, don't shop for wine. My last review confirmed that feeling, but in a very serious attempt to expand a lazy palate I purchased a few different labels to compare. The first was disappointing. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2010 Arboleda Carmenère 2006 Wish I had a nice Canadian wine tonight so I could toast the Canadian Olympic Hockey Team on their winning of the Gold medal. am not an avid hockey fan, but I do watch occasionally and tonight enjoyed one of the best ever games. WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 Why Wine: Bonterra Vineyards Zinfandel 2007 Somewhere among my 50 New Year's resolutions (99.9% failure rate) was to leave my wine comfort zone more often as I continue to expand my trapped palate. To do so, I will have to taste, I mean drink, more wines that I never tried or wines I just never liked. So, to start off the new year I opened one of my least favorite wines, Zinfandel. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Atwater Estate Vineyards Syrah 2007 Syrah has always been one to those wines I could take or leave it. Believe I may do a year end article on the subject. If I do, I will have to include the German grape, Dornfelder as one of the highlights. Dornfelder is a cross between Helfensteiner and Heroldrebe grapes. It is the 3rd most planted red wine grape in Germany. -
WHY WINE BLOG | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2009 Joeshico Wine Review: Agent For Change Zinfandel 2006 ** Disclaimer: I received these wines from Martellotto Wine s One of the benefits of writing a wine blog is the occasional UPS delivery of wine to taste and review on the blog. It can also be disappointing when the wine received is one that I don't normally drink or one that I have a hard time with. Now Cabs I have no problem with. -

WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Banfi Chianti Classico Reserve 2005 Tonight I added another favorite place to eat in Syracuse, Joey's Italian Restaurant. Shirley and I have been dining here for the last 10 years and it seems that the food just keeps getting better and better. Best of all is the fabulous and always changing wine list. The only downside is the lack of New York wines on the list and no NY reds. -

WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Fox Run Vineyards Reserve Riesling 2008 Now I have a few and tonight I chose a 2008 Reserve Reisling from Fox Run Vineyards. Thankfu lly for me, a no sugar guy, the 2008 vintage is a dry Riesling, 1.0% Only in years when ripening conditions are outstanding will this wine be produced and the 2008 is well worth it. WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Row House Cellars White Table Wine NV Alright, here's my dilemma or at least one of them. Without hesitation he said "Muscadet." -

WHY WINE BLOG | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Fox Run Gewurztraminer 2007 One of the problems with bringing home lots of wine from a Finger Lakes wine tour is deciding which ones to try first. Shirley helps make that decision easier by planning some meals ahead of time or by just giving me a warning of what's on the menu for the night. Sometimes though, it can be challenging choosing the right wine for the meal. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2009 Wine of the Week - Selosse Champagne The bottle we drank was disgorged in October of 2008, and I think the most recent vintage in this bottle should therefore be 2004. I'm sorry to do this, to ask you to read about a wine that it so awfully difficult to find, and if you can find it, so terribly expensive. It was pretty amazing, and I want to share a bit about it. -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; White Springs Gewurztraminer 2007 Well it's time to try a new wine, at least new to me. Before now I have never tasted Gewurztraminer. Please, no comments on that issue. It took me over 30 years to appreciate any white wine, and now that I do, I am trying them all. The first was OK and will be nice at a evening get-together, but not one I would bring to the party. Great Buy! -
WHY WINE BLOG | TUESDAY, AUGUST 18, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Two Great Organic Rioja's Based on what I found on the net, it is probably a 2004. With ample experience in making and aging great wines dating back to 1964, Santiago Ijalba García left his position as general and technical manager in a historic Haro bodega to launch his own personal project. In 1998 under his newly-incorporated company Santiago Ijalba S.A. Great Buy! -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Lindemans Bin 40 Merlot 2007 Looking for great buys in wine? Just look to Australia. Don't know what's going on Down Under but right now some of the best buys for wine are Australian. The Lindeman's Merlot 2007 was recommended by a friend this past week-end. Our wine taste profiles are about 180 deg. apart, so I was a little hesitant, but he hit this one right on the nail. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, AUGUST 9, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Henry Estate Oregon Pinot Noir 2006 Sometimes you just get lucky when searching out a wine. dropped into a local shop this week and during a conversation with the shop owner I had asked if he had any wines from Oregon. He did. He actually had one. It was a Pinot Noir. have had some really nice Pinot's from Oregon before, but they were a bit pricey. Pricey, but good. Great Buy! -
WHY WINE BLOG | MONDAY, JULY 27, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc 2006 Today was a shopping day with Shirley. We did the Home Depot, BJ's, Best Buy, Panera for lunch, two grocery stores and one Mom and Pop wine shop. The 'honey do' list at home was longer. Back to my day job tomorrow. Unfortunately, there were no choices for a good New Zealand Savvie so down the aisles I walked searching for one that interested me. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Damiani Wine Cellars Meritage 2007 It seems every winery in the Finger Lakes has a Meritage. Most are nice bordeaux style blends that are very popular and very tasty and very distinct to each winery. Years ago I struggled to find one to like, now I am finding it difficult to taste one I don't like. And then, there comes along one that is over and above any I have tasted before. -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, JULY 5, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Heron Hill Cabernet Franc dry Rose' 2006 I know those close to me won't believe this, but I am actually going to review a Rose' wine. In doing so, I am showing them that I can accept the fact that for almost all of my adult life I have been very stupid or as Lenn Thompson said 'Are you nuts.' Yes Lenn, I was nuts. The resulting juice once pressed was the perfect hue of pink. Great Buy! -
DR. VINO | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24, 2009 Spot the 62 pointer - Viu 1 from Chile - and some Spanish Further, Grant Phelps, the Viu Manent winemaker, said that the Viu 1 was “identical in almost every respect to the 2003, 2004 and 2005, three vintages that he also made. What does a 62 point wine taste like? Not that I follow scores for wine very much, but a 62 pointer? Man, that had to suck. accepted. Was it inferior? -
WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Quinta Da Cortezia Reserva 2004 The shop had a small selection of Portuguese wines and I only had about $15 in my wallet, so I chose a inexpensive Quinta Da Cortezia 2004 Reserva. One of the most difficult time's I have on a short vacation is waiting for the train to take me home. This past week-end was one of those days and that great deal was in a wine shop. Great Buy! -
WHY WINE BLOG | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 2009 Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008. I really enjoy shopping for wine and finding one that I never tried and end up putting it on my list of must have wines. Today, I stopped in to buy a Sauvignon Blanc for the evening. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 2009 Some Tidbits in Lieu of a Coherent Post think I'm going to skip squash and move directly to duck confit. -- Lyle Fass suggested that I try the Bernard Baudry 2008 Chinon Rosé in a comment on my recent rosé post. Perhaps the downward pricing will hit more expensive wine, like 2004 and 2006 Burgundy that's still on shelves, or 2007 Bordeaux? And $27 is the new $22. -

SLAKED | THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 2009 Pax is Back. And This Time It's Personal In the spring of 2008 I learned that the winemaking prodigy behind Pax Wine Cellars, monsieur Pax Mahle, was leaving the eponymously named venture and striking out on his own, once again. SLAKED | SUNDAY, MAY 24, 2009 1988 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello From 95% cabernet sauvignon, with 3% merlot and 2% petit verdot.makes me think they should add 2% petit verdot to the final blend of the 2008, in an attempt to recreate the longevity of the sweetness here. Tags: 2004 Central California 2006 1988 3 stars Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Napa Valley 4 stars This wine put the 1989 to shame. -
SLAKED | THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2009 Bonny Doon Tasting at City Winery The 2008 Albarino ** from an estate vineyard in Soledad was tight and racy. The 2008 Vin Gris de Cigare * was aromatic but a little flabby, while the 2003 Cigare Volant **/ and 2004 Cigare Volant ** each showed a little reduction. The 2004 was fresher, earthier and riper and more complex. Neither was a "wow" wine. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2009 Friday Night Bubbles 2004 Audrey et Christian Binner Crémant d'Alsace Extra Brut , $28, Jenny & François Selections. It is aged for three years on the lees, it was disgorged in May of 2008 and topped up with more Riesling - no sugar or concentrated must in the dosage, hence the Extra Brut status. I'm a big fan of the wines from this Alsace estate. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2009 Domaine de Bellivière - Keeping it Real in the Northern Loire They have been fully organic since 2005 and as of 2008 farm their entire estate biodynamically. Here are notes from bottles I drank in the past few months: 2004 Domaine de Bellivière Coteaux du Loir L'Effraie , $22. Like the 2004, this wine is bursting with fir notes. Well, they taste very good, sometimes great. -
SLAKED | MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 2009 2005 Zinfandels ** Our first wine, a 2005 Hendry Zinfandel Block 28 Napa ** put on weight after decanting but failed to achieve the qualitative heights of the 2004 in terms of concentration and depth. Look for good dark fruits and mild loam, but no "wow." -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2008 Friday Night Bubbles The current release is the 2004 vintage, which I thought was quite nice at the Terry Theise tasting this past fall. 2002 Pierre Gimonnet Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Gastronomme , $40, Terry Theise Selections / Michael Skurnik Wines. There are also Special Club and "Vintage Collection" wines that tend to be old vines cuvées. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2008 Stems or no Stems And I think about other producers whose wines I have greatly enjoyed in the past few years - Sylvie Esmonin - switched to whole cluster fermentation for the 2004 vintage, and Chandon de Briailles - whole cluster in almost every case. The wine maker must decide whether or not to remove the stems before fermentation. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2008 Friday Night Bubbles The bottle that Brooklynguy and I drank together this week was from 2004, disgorged in April of 2007, meaning that it spent about two years on the lees. Back in February of 2007, I wrote in my notebook that the 2004 "will vie with the 2002 as the greatest Terre de Vertus that Larmandier has made so far." -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2008 By the Glass - 2005 Muscadet Edition wonder how they'll stack up against their unheralded brethren from the "classic" 2004 vintage, for example. Here's the thing, though: this wine is good, but nowhere near as amazing as the 2004, in my opinion. Isn't it tempting to check in on your 2005's? That they don't age as well? Drank in late November. Drank in late October. -
SLAKED | MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2008 Thanksgiving Revisited We followed up with Mondavi Napa Valley Merlot 2005 ** which is less robust than the 2004, and not quite as fruity, but is more subtle, and a generally good value wine at $16 To conclude my previous post. Cherry red color with bricking at the edge, this was full on bloody with nice tang on the mid palate. | |
