How does cabernet franc age? The Domaine makes only wines from cabernet franc, with the exception of a white wine from chenin blanc at the Croix Boisée vineyard. The 2002 Grezeaux still had plenty of freshness and a bit of that herbal–but good herbal–character of cab franc. I’d tend to agree.

The 2003 Barolos were hard to taste because the tannins were so hard, but the 2004s were much easier because the tannins were sweet and ripe. There’s a new order at the Wine Advocate. Today, I stopped in to buy a Sauvignon Blanc for the evening. knew what I wanted, one that is already on that list, but also found a new one sitting next to mine and decided to take one home to try. Today, I chose a good one.

Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Bonterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
I have a daughter that is living at home right now while she fixes up a house she bought a few months ago. She is very much into eating healthy and buys only organic veggies and fruits and free range meats, eggs and cheeses. kinda surprised her this evening by opening a California Cabernet Sauvignon made with organic grapes. Great Buy!

Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Heron Hill Eclipse 2004
The wine is a bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, but more of a medium body and a bit fruity. I have no idea what occurred between the early 1980's and present in the case of New York Finger Lakes red wines. After that, I basically stayed with my favorite European red wines.

Why Wine: Joeshico Wine Review; Clos Du Bois Calcaire 2006
I am just going to begin by saying the Clos Du Bois Calcaire 2006 is probably the best Chardonnay I have ever had. Now I'll qualify that statement by saying I do not do white wine that often and that over the years have had probably less or near 100 different Chardonnays and that is really not that many. Made me feel good, I don't win that often.

    Recipe for Success
Mr. Burke has no experience owning restaurants in a down economy; he launched his empire during restaurant boom times, starting in 2003. What's on David Burke's fine-dining menu? lot of in-your-face discounts. Chef and restaurateur David Burke's business sounds like a financial-crisis perfect storm. And yet.Mr. How could this be? Oxidative wines - vin jaune - Domaine Berthet-Bondet, Jura
Located about half way between Dijon and Geneva, the pocket-sized region of the Jura makes some of France’s most distinctive wines. Their Cotes de Jura Tradtion 2003 provides the oxidative wine character, but at a fraction of the price (about $22; find this wine ). Oxidative wines are an essential wine tasting reference point.

WHY WINE: Joeshico Wine Review; Damiani vino rosso NV
The family-owned winery produced its first vintage in 2004, and the cabernet franc and meritage are quite notable for its young age. “Finger Lakes wineries now number nearly 100, and one of the newest and most interesting is the tiny Damiani Wine Cellars (tel. 607/546-5557), in Hector on the east side of Seneca Lake. This is one to watch.

Ulli Stein and his forbidden wine
This sweet wine has its origins in the Jura, the Alpine region of France, and gets its name from the straw mats that the grapes are dried upon for months after harvest and before a long fermentation (Stein said his takes 12 months). The 2003 that I tasted is a lovely, rich dessert wine. Ulli Stein has made a forbidden wine for decades.

Alice Initiates a New Deck in the Wilderness
imagine given the year, it might have been the 2001 Dard et Ribo Crozes Hermitage I had recently brought back from France as in 2003 they were still absent from the American Market. Caution: This has nothing to do with wine. When this video was taken, five years ago, I hadn't even been drinking anything but coffee.

    Domaine de L'Arlot
Since 2003 Domaine de L'Arlot has been practicing biodynamic throughout the entire estate. To my foreigner's eyes, the villages in France can really blend into one another. I asked Peter Liem where Domaine de L'Arlot stands in the pantheon of Burgundy and he said "People who really know and love Burgundy love Domaine de L'Arlot."

So on the last trip to the cellar I brought back a couple bottles of Chateau Cantemerle -- one bottle of the 2000, one 2003 -- which we opened last night with hamburgers (90% lean, over toasted whole wheat bread, smothered with Gruyère, grilled onions, and dijon mustard) and Mary Ellen's Double Dutch German Chocolate Cake.

    1995 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello
Composed of 69% cabernet sauvignon , 18% merlot , 10% petit verdot , and 3% cabernet franc, the wine is dark and brooding, with complex notes of cedar and blackberry on the nose. At thirteen, the 1995 Monte Bello is still a child. have tasted this twice before, and my thoughts on the wine have been consistent. It won't. As Robert Parker Jr.

Wines for the New (Jewish) Year UNDER $30
The 2003 is drinking great, the 2004 is delicious and the just released 2005 is gorgeous.  Staying with the theme of uncommon varietals is the Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc.  Those are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot & Malbec. I'm sorry for the delay in writing this post.  Let's start with Carmel.

Alice Feiring - In Vino Veritas
Even if I could afford first and second growths, the wines don’t excite me the way, lets say, a Breton or Olivier Cousin Cab Franc do. the 2001 was before they had any toasty new oak barrels, which they bought in 2003 thanks to the insistence of their California importer, North Berkeley. They became the norm. Cheval Blanc? But I did.

    NorCal day 2: Sonoma
Their 2004 cabernet which is actually a Bordeaux blend of 76% Cabernet, 18% merlot, 4% Petit Verdot & 2% cab franc. The 2003 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet reserve was also a favorite with its unusual nose and nice body. tried to get down a "bug juice" of sorts that was simply awful. Maybe he simply lacked personality. Great stuff!

The 2003 Chateau Lamourette Sauternes made from 90% semillon, 6% Muscadelle & 4% Sauvignon Blanc was quite pleasant. One such wine was the 2003 Chateau Clarke Listrac-medoc. It was the 2003 Chateau Fourcas Dupre from Listrac-Medoc. I attended this event for the second year in a row at The Altman Building in NY city.

Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines
Rather it was a 2004 (I think) Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. Cab Franc is one of the 5 Bordeaux varietals (grapes which can be used to make French Bordeaux wine - others being Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec & Petit Verdot), and it is usually used as a complementary grape as opposed to a primary grape in Bordeaux.

Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges.
have found 2003 -2005 in stores ranging in price from about $ 13.50 It can be found for both the 2003 & 2004 vintages. The 2003 & the latest release, the 2004 are both drinking beautifully right now. The oldest one I tried was a 1993, but I've also had the '97, '99 and have recently been drinking the 2002, & 2003.

Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
L&R are a winery that focuses on Cab Franc, a varietal I am NOT generally a big fan of. Cabernet Franc is known for having green bell pepper notes, and these green herbaceous notes simply do not jive with my palate. but it was her Bordeaux style blend 2003 "Chesler" wine that I most enjoyed. Great stuff. really enjoyed it.

    Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting
In case you're not familiar with Jenny & Francois , they import natural wines from all over France, from heavy hitters like Burgundy to unsung heroes like the Côtes de Duras (just northeast of Bordeaux, and considered Southwest France). 2003 Courois Racine VdP de Sologne (Loire) - barnyard poop all the way, and expensive.

    Alto Adige Wines Grand Tasting
One in particular was a blend - their "Col de Rey" IGT 2003. This blend of 20% Tannat (a grape originally from SW France), 30% Petit Verdot (a Bordeaux varietal) and 50% Lagrein was very nice. then was offered their "Amistar" Cabernet Franc 2005. But the "Amistar" Cab Franc. Possibly my favorite 100% Cab Franc EVER.

Clos Rougeard.if I Ever Go Back
BrooklynLady and I went to France together for the first time in October of 2005. From what I understand, though, it is actually easier to buy these wines here in America than in France, where they have achieved cult status and are virtually impossible to find. ve not found its equal in Cabernet Franc. This goes for about $55.

Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39
Erika wasn't so sure about the 2003 she drank. John, the Corkdork, tasted a 2003 Comte Lafon Mâcon Milly Lamartine , and he highly recommends it, and also trying Lafon's Mâconnais wines in general. He also tasted a red wine, one from what must be the newest appellation in France, the Côte de Coucherais. hear that. Nuts, yes.

Sauvignon Blanc - a Mini Blind Tasting
Could be our small sample, but this reiterated for me that France continues to make some of the finest under $15 wine in the world. From northern Italy in the Fruili region, the 2003 Vie de Romans Fruili Vieris Sauvignon (price unknown, unavailable) was just strange. Why Sauvignon Blanc this time around? And no Long Island wine either.

Rhone Valley 2003 Domaine Pierre Usseglio Chateauneuf-du-Pape , $40 (Chambers Street Wines). New York 2002 Castello di Borghese Cabernet Franc Reserve , $32 (winery). Very different style, to my palate, from the Loire Cabernet Francs I usually drink. An interesting and highly enjoyable departure from my usual Cab Franc habits.

WBW 34 - Washington State Cabernet
hope she'll let me slide with my blend of 48% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc, and then Cabernet Sauvignon and petit Verdot making up the balance. 2003 Mark Ryan Long Haul , $33 (Avalon Wines). I'm trying to be forgiving here because I understand how difficult 2003 - very hot. West coast wines are daunting to me, I must say.
