How does cabernet franc age? A visit to Domaine Baudry
The tannins are fine; the wine in 2009 exhibits fine tannins while the 2008 could benefit from more bottle age (or a good decant). I’d also venture that this wine would last a couple of decades and would like to buy a few bottles to tuck away for my son born in 2008. How does cabernet franc age? I’d tend to agree.

Toast of the Town - NYC
The one that really stood out to me was the Michaud 2004 Pinot Noir from the Chalone region.  Michaud also had a 2003 Chalone Syrah that I also really thought was great.  Wine Enthusiast magazine put on their "Toast of the Town" wine & food event yesterday in NYC at Lincoln Center.  But it wasn't all perfect.  Very well done!

    NorCal day 2: Sonoma
Zinfandel is a very common varietal in Sonoma county and I tried 2 Zins at Sausal; the 2004 Family Zinfandel & the 2005 Private reserve Zin. It was actually the 2004 "old vine" Estate Alexander Valley Zin that I liked most. The 2003 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet reserve was also a favorite with its unusual nose and nice body.

    Day in Napa
enjoyed the 2003 Havens Syrah but mentioned to Connie that I thought the nose was a little closed. had a 2004 " The Sisters " Cab made with 8% Cab Franc. tried a 2004 red blend called "Blend 24" by B Cellars that was 75% cab, 15% merlot & 10 % syrah that had nice forest pine & forest berries to it. Nice wines.

Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello 2002 **
This is like 2003 and could be greatness in the making. 2004 **? 2003 * Un-freaking-belieable. The wine is very dark and to me a blue blood with a purple rim (but the picture makes it look a little purple, I admit). The aromatics and top notes are woodsy: mostly soft cedar, a touch of evergreen, some fresh oak. 2002 ** or ?

By The Glass - Oregon Pinot Edition
Although there are problems with the wines in general (too sweet to my palate), on the whole I much prefer them to the 2004's we tasted during our recent Five Nights of Oregon Pinot festivities. This vineyard generally does well in hot years - St Innocent's White Rose Pinot was my favorite Oregon wine from the incredibly hot 2003 vintage.

Tuscan winetasting and food pairing at Uvarara
Next up was Villa diAngelo Vino Nobile (also a Sangiovese ) di Montepulciano 2003 DOCG which is a Prugnolo Gentile varietal with aromas of cola, spices, and violet perfume. Tommasi Poggio Al Tufo Rompicollo 2004 IGT. First up was a 100% Sangiovese. Giaconde Sangiovese Rubicone 2006 IGT. Fifth up was the Supertuscan from Maremma.

Kosher Wine Extravaganza - Unusual (but gooood) wines
Rather it was a 2004 (I think) Recanati Reserve Cabernet Franc. The 2003 Chateau Fourcas Doupre Bordeaux had a very interesting and unusual nose. Well, a wine I was surprised by was the Hebron Heights winery 2003 Isaacs Ram Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot, Cab, Syrah - been there done that. Well you want unusual, you got it!

Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges.
have found 2003 -2005 in stores ranging in price from about $ 13.50 Rogov gives the 2004 the best score of the bunch, but any will do the trick at $14 or so. Definitely fruit forward, the PS/Zin can be found in the 2004 vintage and sells for between $16-$24 - yes, a wide range. The winery has since released the 2004 as well.

Skurnik Tasting - my favorites (finally)
The 2003 "1er Etage" Cab Franc was blended with 2% Petit Verdot and had very subtle green notes but was was nice as well. And their 2004 "Right Bank" Red, a blend of Cab Franc (53%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (9%) & Cab Sauv (8%) was beautiful. but it was her Bordeaux style blend 2003 "Chesler" wine that I most enjoyed.

2005 Rhone Valley Reds. Extraordinary So Far.
Joseph "Offerus" from 2005 ($20, 1 star) was the best vintage of this wine I have tried going back to 2004, 2003, and 2001. The 2001 and 2003 were excellent young, but have faded fruit these days and are no longer recommended for the long term.) 2005 is one of the most fabled vintages in French history. Chave St. The J.L.

    Gambero Rosso Tasting
The only other reds that I really liked at the whole tasting were the 2004 Poliziano Nobile de Montepulciano Asinone and the 2003 Terre degli Svevi Aglianico del Vulture Serpara. 2003 Monfalletto Barolo Enrico VI - like eating dry dust. 2003 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra V. Also, the place was a total zoo. unrelenting.

    Jenny & Francois Portfolio Tasting
White 2004 Vergé Viré-Clessé Vieille Vignes - barnyard funk is overpowering on the nose. Red 2004 Peyra Côtes d'Auvergnes - somewhere between the south-eastern edge of the Loire and the north-western Rhône is Côtes d'Auvergnes. 2004 Derain Mercurey " la Plante Chassey" - smells like cured meat and sandalwood, kind of chalky too.

    My Bordeaux One Night Stand
We drank a 2004, a vintage that might not need as much time to unwind as say, 2000, 2003, or 2005. 2004 Calon-S é gur , St-Est è phe , $40 when I bought futures almost three years ago, and only a few bucks more now. How nice to try a wine that is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (70% in 2004) and at merely 12.5% Anyway. We

    Alto Adige Wines Grand Tasting
The Laimburg Winery "Selyet" Pinot Nero Riserva 2004 was a standout at a table of reserve Pinots. One in particular was a blend - their "Col de Rey" IGT 2003. I was fortunate to be able to attend the Alto Adige Grand Tasting this afternoon. For the most part it was salespeople/marketing professionals doing the pouring. BUT, do it SOON!

Five Nights of Oregon Pinot Noir - Part I
We were looking for some sort of continuity in the wines, though, so we decided to taste wines from the 2004 vintage. 2004 was a tough year in the Willamette Valley because a cold spell and then later on a rainy spell threatened the crop. This is interesting in that they used a new wine maker for the 2004 vintage, Chris Mazepink.
