A WINE STORY | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2010 Wines of Albino Armani few other journalists and I gathered together to taste her wines and hear her story at Dan Meyers new Maialino restaurant in Gramercy Park. The most interesting aspect of the tasting was experiencing the 2005 and 2009 Foja Tonda grape, an indigenous grape to Vallagarina in Italy’s Adige Valley. Incredible! -
SLAKED | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2009 Week-end Round-Up & A Plug for Vacuum Sealers It was sort of cool seeing them all lined up like wines by the glass in a restaurant. numbered them and we did a blind tasting, pitting Girard's 2002 Cabernet Franc against a 2000 Ch. Charmail **, a 2005 Mondavi Napa Valley Merlot, 2000 Ch. Somehow I ended up with five bottles of unifinished wine at the end of last week.

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2008 Dinner with Peter Liem and Friends Our visits overlapped, and so along with a few of his friends, we met for dinner at the excellent restaurant called Three Doors Down. We began with the 2002 Champagne Raymond Boulard Extra Brut Les Rachais. We then opened the 2002 Benoît Lahaye Champagne Millésime (another bottle checked in his suitcase). Is this normal? -
VIGNA UVA VINO | WEDNESDAY, JULY 23, 2008 Interview with Vito Polosa of Aroma Kitchen & Winebar After they met in November 2002, they created an escape in their home by hosting frequent dinners to celebrate friendships and family, food and wine. They dreamed of creating a restaurant that would bring back the values of fresh, local food that is carefully prepared coupled with wonderful wines and genuine service. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, MAY 21, 2008 Deetrane Invades Long Island's North Fork Owner and chef Chris, who just that morning had been a total teddy bear serving his delicious apple-cinnamon pancakes, became an utter tyrant while pouring a fabulous 2002 Peconic Bay Cabernet Sauvignon and an equally impressive 2005 Reisling. Dee and P were happily surprised at how much they liked the wines. suspect it was the latter. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2008 Familiar Places, New Friends But then Peter Liem in his truly excellent blog Besotted Ramblings and Other Drivel wrote about Damien Laureau's Savennières in his February 9, 2008 post (to which I cannot seem to create a link), calling it the finest example of Savennières from 2005. 2005 was a very good year in Savennières, as it was in most of France. Rabbit? -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2007 Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39 Before getting into the specifics, here are a few things that jump out at me when looking at our notes as a whole: 9 out of the 14 reds tasted were from the 2005 vintage, a ripe and glorious year. Lyle Fass of Rockss and Fruit also participates for the first time, writing about a Tres Vieille Vignes 2005 Mâcon Bussieres by Eric Texier. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2007 By the Glass 2005 Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Tuffeaux (about $23, Dressner stuff again, might be sold out at this point but there are other Chidaine wines on the shelf - try one). 2002 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses (about $17, readily available). This is the top wine from that estate and 2002 was a good vintage in Chinon. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2007 Wine Dinner Envy Sorely missed Salem Chef Bernard Malherbe (formerly Fleur de Sel) agreed to re-invigorate his French genes and cook a six course dinner at his current Portland restaurant, Pata Negra. The following week in Seattle, the two will pour their offerings at the fabled Canlis Restaurant. Voillot 2005 Meursault Chevalieres / St. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2007 Brooklyn Uncorked: A Tasting of Long Island Wines Three producers that I did not taste, much to my regret, are the reds of Castello di Borghese (I was really impressed in their tasting room last summer), Wolffer Estate (loved the bottle I had at Home restaurant recently, and Schneider Vineyards (supposedly very good Cabernet Franc), which for some reason, was not present at this event. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2007 Roundup - Recent Sips Drank at a restaurant, so retail would be about $12-15, I imagine. 2002 Sylvan Cathiard Vosne Romanee , $25 (secondary market). 2005 Belle Pente Willamette Valley Pinot Gris , $17. 2005 Domaine de Belliviere Jasnieres Les Rosiers , $28. 2005 Mark Angeli Anjou La Lune , $26. BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4, 2007 Seafood Soup with Fregola That fact, combined with the seafood soup with fregola that I ate at our last visit to Al Di La (our favorite restaurant) inspired me to try the combination of fregola and seafood at home. I am so psyched that the fish people are back at the Grand Army Plaza farmer's market. When fresh, flounder is really great, and very versatile. -

BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2006 Weekend Wines and Eats We had some yummy food, and an expensive bummer of a very poor meal at a popular and supposedly excellent Brooklyn restaurant. 2002 Pian del Ciampolo was in stores until a few months ago and it was graceful, light bodied, but pretty intense wine. Fuller bodied than the 2002, intense smokey cherry and leather flavors, very earthy. -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 Some New York Wines Their unoaked 2005 Estate Sauvignon Blanc was fresh and lively.
