2001 was not a very good vintage in Champagne. So it was fascinating to have the opportunity to try a vintage wine from 2001, Jean Vesselle's Br u t Prestige. This one took the longest to come around, but when it did it was a classic old school bloody, meaty, black olivey, and very mineral northern Rhône Syrah. Some wine too. MORE >>

Here are some of the wines that stood out for me: 1992 Edmunds St John Syrah Grand Heritage. 2001 Baumard Savenniè res Clos de Papillon. The 2007 Sync and an outstanding 2008 blend of Cab Franc, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon called Overlay Verse 4. Anyela's planted their vineyard in 2001, and opened in 2008 when releasing their 2005 vintage. Entrance sign off W. Lake Rd. And there happens to be only one winery on that lake. Very professional!
