[2001, Israel] What a Day! 2 Wine Tastings!!
I went away (within Israel) for the sabbath to a friend of the family. A 2003 Artadi Pagos Viejos Rioja and the 2001 Grant Burge "Meshach" Shiraz. After the Sabbath I drove into Tel Aviv to meet up with a friend who I may work with on my Israel Wine Project. A wonderful woman and great cook it is always a nice shabbat when spent with her and her family.

[2001, Israel] How Long to age your wine?
A great example of this last factor happened in Israel in 2002. So getting back to Israel, comparing the 2002 to vintages such as 1997, 1999 & especially 2001, these other years have shown to behave better and age longer than the 2002's as 2002 was a short, cold and unusual growing season. I received a very good question from a reader yesterday. The question by Wayne W. is as follows: "One question I still have about red wines is how long to cellar them before drinking.

[2001, Israel] Best bet (kosher) Israeli wines for Passover - at all price ranges.
Well regarded throughout Israel, Recanati produces some fine wines. Interesting side note is that you can get the 2001 here for about $11, but buyer beware - I have heard from some who have purchased it that this wine is declining and should be consumed within the next few months, perfect if you plan to drink it over Passover. Dalton has some nice wines for about $30 including their Reserve Syrah or their Zinfandel which sold out in Israel.

[2001, Israel] Casa Marguery Malbec: Bringing the Past to the Present and Into the Future
Then Alex gave me a glass of Enrique Foster IQUE Malbec 2001. Here the former French Cot had to dig a bit deeper to find nutrients and was fed water through drip irrigation systems from an isolated well developed in Israel and Australia unless it was in one of the prime spots with the underground irrigation systems from the days of old in which case the govement allotted water runoff from the snowcaps. The word Malbec is being heard more and more these days.

[2001, Israel] Israeli Wine - Wine Advocate " Modern Israel: A Survey (A Work in Progress)"
Well ladies and gentlemen, the results are in. I will be copying a list of wines & their scores from Israeli Wine Critic Daniel Rogov's "Wine & Food Forum". I am waiting for my physical copy of the issue to arrive before I comment specifically. The only thing I would like to share is my excitement for a 92 score given to a wine I worked on - The TZORA "Or" dessert wine.

[2001, Israel] Wining and even some dining
I was to have drinks with a gentleman who was interested in being involved with the Israel Wine project I am working on. Now I know, I must do a better job documenting the exact wines, but I do remember that we ordered a 2000 Merlot & a 2001 Cabernet. At Jacques' recommendation we selected the 2001 Yatir blend - made from 60% Cab & 40% Merlot. This wine was made from fruit from the Judean Hills region & 2001 was (I believe) the first vintage released by Yatir.
