The head of the lab encouraged us to try the samples frequently (which I did) so being able to now try the 2004 "Two Barrel Reserve" Cab FROM THE BOTTLE was a real treat. Sadly, the prices for Peay wines are quite high. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE JANUARY 25, 2007 Following up on a Buying Strategy Idea have been sampling some older experiments using this strategy, a few 2001 Pinots from Oregon and Burgundy, 2002 was considered the star vintage in both regions. This kind of thinking is especially important for me now that every few years it seems to be "the vintage of the century" in Burgundy (or Bordeaux, others too). | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE APRIL 29, 2007 Wine with the In-Laws, San Diego Style Anyway, here are the wines we sampled on this visit 1996 Cristom Pinot Noir Mt Jefferson Cuvee, Willamette Valley - Funky, rotting aromas at first, but blew off to reveal mellow red and black berries, leathery earth. 2001 Hafner Reserve Chardonnay, Alexander Valley - Great nose of vanilla and tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus too. | | | | | | | | | -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2006 Three from Burgundy Last night I had the distinct pleasure of tasting three Burgundies, one white and two red. had to rely on my "tasting memory" to try to understand the white wine, but comparing the reds offered me some clear insights about red wine in Burgundy. The 2001 JM Boillot Puligny Montrachet is the white that Deetrane served at his wedding. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2006 Oregon Pinot Noir - Some Thoughts on the 2004 Vintage It was very tasty wine, very low priced compared to Burgundy, and to a 21 year old who was just learning about wine, that Oregon label was a million times easier than dealing with the labels of Burgundy! My favorite recent vintage is 2001. tasted this alongside a 93 premier cru burgundy and a 2002 Moray St Denis. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2008 Clos Rougeard.if I Ever Go Back So this is an investment, not just in the Burgundy type of cash, but also in cellar space. If you spend $55 on a Burgundy, are you definitely getting the finest example? know I'm supposed to wait, but in 2007 I sampled two of the wines and one of them was pretty mind blowing, the other just plain old excellent. Bordeaux? MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2007 Silver Burgundy Roudup - WBW #39 As I keep hearing (and learning for myself) about Burgundy - it's all about the producer. Lafon's Montrachet and Meursault sell for LOTS of money, and are some of the more sought after wines in Burgundy. Dr. Vino also tasted a regional wine , an Aligoté, the other white grape of Burgundy. Some are surprisingly inexpensive. MORE >> -
SLAKED | SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2008 2005 Rhone Valley Reds. Extraordinary So Far. Short of sampling every wine from the 2005 vintage like a professional critic would, you have to make an educated guess as to whether this is really an exceptional vintage or not. To do just that, I've been sampling 2005s from a number of areas and at a number of price points. Reminds me of the Sabon Prestige Chateauneuf du Pape 2001. MORE >>
