    We tend to value the idea of vinifying individual plots separately, as in Burgundy, and increasingly now in Champagne. enjoyed the 1997 and the 2000, but I have had both of these wines before and enjoyed both vintages more on those other occasions. The company was great, and so were the food and the wines. Delicious.

The majority of the sommeliers, however, felt that for the price of the California chard they could have bought a killer white Burgundy. so now we are having beer (!)

Awesome wine, and it's the same price as a newly released 1er cru red Burgundy from a good terroir. White Burgundy is tough to buy, I think. Very impressive. Very lovely.

    People mostly thought this was a Burgundy, that's how delicate and translucent it was, and how fresh and spicy. could tell without even tasting that it was a Burgundy, a big and ripe example, with a heady fruity perfume. guessed it to be either a 2002, or perhaps a 2000 from a top producer and a top site. But my friends didn't.

    Bouchard is an infant of a Champagne house, created in 2000 and located in the Côte des Bar, the southern part of Champagne where the climate resembles that of Burgundy, and where Pinot Noir is the most common grape.     Its an incredible learning experience to sample a flight of 2000 Bordeaux and then compare that to another flight of Bordeaux from 1970 to 1990.     As is common in New York, a combination of artists and other intrepid souls in about 2000 began moving to Red Hook for the low rents. The wine list is called "eccentric" by reviewers, which means that there are no bottles from Bordeaux or Burgundy, even though almost every bottle on the list is French. But the food was excellent.
