2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting

The 2008 Monte Bello will (probably) be made from just cabernet sauvignon and merlot for the first time in twenty-five years. The Monte Bello team was also pouring the 1999, 1997, and 1995 Monte Bellos. The 1999 is still edgy with more woodsy notes and succulent strawberry and cream. These Rhone wines need time to evolve. Polaner tasting standouts

Moving to the Rhone valley in France I tried some wines from Eric Texier. Domaine de la Janasse has several wines I was hoping to try but having skipped this table early on I was only able to taste the 2007 Janasse Cotes du Rhone Blanc. Eric Texier of The Rhone had some reds in addition to the whites I mentioned earlier. MORE >>

Tasted at Veritas with the 1999 Chateau Margaux. Garnet plum color, with fancy French perfume and spice menagerie on the nose. Sweet plum on the palate with excellent viscosity. Exuberant berry medley. Just defies explanation MORE >>
