MAY 20, 2009 [1997, Petit Verdot] 2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting
Difficult to compare to recent vintages (which have all included at least some cabernet franc or petit verdot) this is less flamboyant than the 2006 and 2007, and will benefit from extended cellaring. The Monte Bello team was also pouring the 1999, 1997, and 1995 Monte Bellos.

DECEMBER 1, 2008 [1997, Petit Verdot] 1995 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello
Composed of 69% cabernet sauvignon , 18% merlot , 10% petit verdot , and 3% cabernet franc, the wine is dark and brooding, with complex notes of cedar and blackberry on the nose. Better than the 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2002, the 1995 may be the least accessible modern Monte Bello , and the longest lived At thirteen, the 1995 Monte Bello is still a child.

AUGUST 31, 2008 [1997, Petit Verdot] 1996 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello *
described the wine this way: "80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 9% Petit Verdot that reached 13.4% There is plenty of tannin, but it is sweeter than that found in the 1997, and the wine is more concentrated and extracted. Earth - damp, light as fog, and brine - and wood and woodland scents on the nose. Blueberryesque, almost dry, on the palate. God.this is dumbfounding. If it gets any better than this, I haven't found it. Robert Parker Jr.

SEPTEMBER 25, 2009 [1997, Petit Verdot] Dominus Estate, Napa Valley – photo post
I’ve wanted to visit the Dominus Estate in Napa since it was built in 1997. The 108 acres of vineyards are almost entirely dry-farmed (no irrigation) and largely planted to cabernet sauvignon although there is also merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc.

| WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2012
Of course, this charming French-born co-founder of Clos du Val would know - especially since he had the exalted position of Chairman of the Napa Valley Wine Auction in 1997
. Due to his Bordeaux background, Portet was accustomed to wines of elegance and finesse that typically were blends of several varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
for red Bordeaux and Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon for white. . Bernard Portet’s Heritance. Bernard Portet. MORE >>
