The 1997 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello is a sometimes gorgeous wine. We also cracked another bottle of 2004 Far Niente Napa Valley Chardonnay My previous experience with this wine, at a Wine Spectator tasting in 2007, was phenomenal. 2004 Napa Valley Merlot **+ Thoroughly enjoyable. This opened up very nicely after a few hours, but never really showed the complexity and big fruit of the 2004 Merlot. Lastly, I'd like to mention the 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ( ) which I retasted when Robert Mondavi passed away. had never even been to the estate. MORE >> -

have tasted Monte Bello cabernets from 1976, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004, and I am constantly amazed by the wine's ability to age gracefully.
