perfect example in my opinion of going over the top and valuing the process over the results could be seen with Domaine Leroy’s wines in the great, great red Burgundy vintage of 1993. much prefer in general the 1999s or 2001s in Châteauneuf du Pape for instance, over their more highly-touted counterparts from 1998, 2000 or 2003. The lineup of white Burgundies certainly was impressive on paper, with notable wines at various stages of maturity. 1997 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Caillerets 1er Cru - incredible (as in odd, not as in amazing) nose of marzipan, cake, and toast.
