The Reserve Chardonnay 2008 had excellent concentration of fruit and ripe, succulent flavors, while the 2008 Chardonnay had New World Finesse and good structural integration. | | | | | | | | | DR. We begin by drinking his 2007 Pinon Vouvray Silex Noir leftovers, and then drink the Delorme, again, just delicious. My friend opens a 1995 Château Lafon-Rochet, from St. We decant it, it's delicious. The Yanks dominate the Angels, winning 10-1. | | | | | | | | | -
SLAKED | THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 2009 2004 Hanzell Chardonnay I didn't expect to like this 2004 Chardonnay from Hanzell Vineyards as much as I did. I've been wondering recently what it would mean if Hanzell, which planted the first pinot noir vines in California in 1953, received 95+ points from the major trade press regularly. Hanzell previously reviewed: 2005 Chardonnay 1995 Pinot Noir. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2008 Toast of the Town - NYC What really stood out were many of the Pinots. I have noted on several occasions that fruit-forward new world Pinot Noir is not my thing. Yes having some subtle fruit in a Pinot is a nice thing, but the big, often artificial tasting (think candied cherries) Pinot Noirs are simply too much for me. MORE >> -
WINE TASTING GUY | FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2008 Riesling & Co. World Tour 2008 Finally I tried a 1995 beerenauslese that another journalist next to me had just tried and flipped over. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I went to the NYC Riesling tasting at the Tribecca rooftop. As is usually the case, there were some very fine examples, some adequate examples, and some that I personally did not care for. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2007 It's Love! It's.More Grower Champagne! tasted five of the wines, and two of them were as beautiful as anything I've ever had - the 1995 Cuvee de Rene Geoffroy (must be about $250 for a magnum), and the NV Cuvee Volupte (about $70/bottle?). At 50% Pinot Meunier, this wine is deep, nutty, and juicy, and at the same time elegant and crackling with bright minerality and acidity. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2007 WBW 37 - Indigenous Grape Varieties love French wine, but the good doctor ruled out what he called "the big six grapes" from France, namely Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir. Aha, but one of my absolute favorites grapes (behind only my beloved Pinot Noir) is not on that list. Whatever, do what you want. MORE >>
