The 1993 reserva (about $50) is an excellent place to start with nutty aroma yet freshness on the palate. Why pay en primeur prices for young Bordeaux that won’t arrive for two years? case against that certainly comes in the form of the traditional Riojas from R. Lopez de Heredia. The 1988 and the 1993 were both compelling and wonderful wines, and both were ready for drinking in that the harder edges of structure had melted into the wine, and both wines showed a delicate side that accentuated the clarity of mature fruit and stony base.
