    Visiting Bodegas Carrau in Uruguay
In 1991 – by the time Javiar was in charge – the winery was doing well and Paul Hobbs, the famous winemaker and consultant who now has vineyards all over the world – came to visit. Blend of Tannant Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The family has been in the wine trade since 1752 and hails from Catalunya, Spain. Delicious.

As you can see, the rose (made from Merlot!) Martin Tesch. Today in NYC two of the biggest wine shows came to town, both located at the same time at different ends of the city. Then again, you might be influenced by the way experts taste in Burgundy, which is red first and then white. Riesling fans know it is the soil that makes the wine.

Paul Draper’s forty years and the making of Ridge Monte Bello
Monte Bello, the estate’s top wine, is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and some Merlot, but also, in some vintages, some petit verdot. Estephe-like in its tannins; turns out it was 76% cabernet sauvignon and 24% merlot. But the wine of the night, in my view, was the 1991. The road to Monte Bello. had chosen. In the glass.

    2005 Ridge Monte Bello
On the palate, surprisingly light, with some fresh dark fruits left, and certainly quite pure in style, but not concentrated like the 1991 or 2002, and not esoteric like the 1996. Also tasted (blind): 2003 Ridge Vineyards California Mountain Merlot and 2005 Duckhorn Merlot Napa Valley Both very similar in style to the 2005 Monte Bello.

    2008 Monte Bello Futures Tasting
The 2008 Monte Bello will (probably) be made from just cabernet sauvignon and merlot for the first time in twenty-five years. At the end of a long day, Eric Baugher opened a bottle from a barrel experiment of the 1991 Monte Bello ** vintage, aged exclusively in new (mixed) French cooperage. There is no short answer. All are superb.

1991 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello *
The 1991 Monte Bello * has been hailed as "one of the most delicious vintages of Monte Bello" and one of the " wines that one must try at least once in their life." From 85% caberent sauvignon, 10% merlot and 5% petit verdot, the wine nevertheless sounded a striking note of graphite and crushed stones.

    1995 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello
Composed of 69% cabernet sauvignon , 18% merlot , 10% petit verdot , and 3% cabernet franc, the wine is dark and brooding, with complex notes of cedar and blackberry on the nose. Parker scored it 94-96 points, and compared it to "the great 1992 and 1991." At thirteen, the 1995 Monte Bello is still a child. It won't.

Sotheby's Pre Sale Tasting Report; Part 2
1991 Remoissenet Pere et Fils Batard Montrachet Grand Cru - Smells of wood and banana, some barnyard elements. 1995 Stags Leap Merlot, Napa Valley - Opulent nose of plums and spices. This is a decadent wine, a very classy merlot. And what of the white wines? was not so impressed, though, overall. Almondy marzipan palate.
