VINO MAY 11, 2009 Gallo’s humor (or lack thereof) In Ernest Gallo’s obituary, the Times of London further summarized Gallo’s legal actions : In 1990 the company successfully sued the Gallo Nero wine consortium of Chianti who had used the word “gallo” (cockerel) on their bottles. E & J Gallo, the enormous, privately held wine company, is well-known (notorious?) France. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE AUGUST 12, 2008 Overheard in the Wine Storage Warehouse double magnum of 1990 DRC Romanée St.Vivant caught my eye. I finally got my act together and found a place to store my wine. It had been sleeping in a friend's basement cellar, but he sold his house. Based on my own research and on a reader's recommendation, I chose Acker Merrall & Condit. The warehouse is the size of an airplane hangar. | BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE FEBRUARY 23, 2012 Old or Young Wines First? We drank the oldest wines first, and ended with the 1990, the 1996, and the 2007. The other night I had dinner with 7 other people in Manhattan, a dinner featuring 12 vintages of Marcarini Barolo Brunate. Three wines each from the 60's, 70's, 80's, two wines from the 90's, and the 2007. Tastings Noël Verset Technical Stuff Burgundy Marcarin | | | | | | | | | | -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2008 Back to Your Roots - WBW #48 Here is the story of my very first wine epiphany: The year is 1990. 47 editions of Wine Blogging Wednesday have come and gone. speak of the monthly online community wine tasting and sharing event created by Lenn, the New York wine guy at Lenndevours. Four years. That's ancient in the world of wine blogs. Food=bad, rock=business. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2011 Matt Kramer's Making Sense of Burgundy - Some Quotes This book was published in 1990 and it continues to be on most shortlists of great wine books. I had a birthday in November and a friend gave me a fantastic gift - Matt Kramer's "Making Sense of Burgundy." actually have read almost no wine books, so my entire list is a short list. But I must say, this book is wonderful. Or does it? MORE >> -
DR. VINO | TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2011 Bob Trinchero on the first Sutter Home white zinfandel million cases; by 1990, they hit three million cases. W$Jay was slumming it with zinfandel recently. He had a passing remark about the origin of Sutter Home white zin. Thanks to the Regional Oral history Office at Cal’s Bancroft Library, we have access to the first-hand account of Bob Trinchero, then winemaker at Sutter Home. Mistake. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2010 Further Adventures in Blind Tasting In the end, certain that I would be wrong, I said "I think it is a southern Rhône wine, late 1990's." The other night my pal Peter came over for dinner. He's one of those former Brooklynites who packed up his wife and kid and moved out of the city to somewhere in the Hudson Valley. He has a decent sense of what I like to drink. He likes pork. MORE >> -
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2012 Marius Gentaz Côte-Rôtie - a Dinner for the Ages. The 1990 was not. The other night I did something that I have never done before, and most likely will never do again. drank a Marius Gentaz Côte-Rôtie. Gentaz never made large quantities of wine, and he stopped making wine after the 1993 vintage - he retired and his nephew René Rostaing took over the vines. Sounds like a lot, right? MORE >>
