Gaja Vertical Tasting of Sperss at Vinexpo
So we started with the Sperss 1989 which was delicate with a very long finish. This is not typical in New York and possibly other countries, but this is Mr. Gaia speaking and he spoke with such incredible passion it was mesmerizing. Fabulous vertical of sperss today at  Vinexpo. That is why Sperss means nostalgia.

Sunday Lunch for the Ages - A Guided Tour of the Early Days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant
Here's the thing - we crammed into several cars and drove from NYC where the snow was in gray and black piles against the parked cars, to the hilly horse farm country of mid-state New York. This past weekend I participated in one of the greatest wine events of my life. This was not a business lunch. The wines were very special.

    Visiting Valpolicella & Friuli
The famous 21 Club in New York sold more sweet Riesling than dry wines back in the early years of the 20th century. And New York? We do not have the luxury of time so I can’t tell you about the new spa or fitness center yet the grounds are gorgeous, sort of like the Villa Medici on a smaller scale. Day 2.

Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman
At the time Madame Leroy was a fairly new devotee to biodynamism, and as part of her regimen in this vintage, she refused to spray her vines against mildew, which was potentially a huge problem during this growing season. John Gilman, author of the newsletter The View from the Cellar , joins us again for a Q&A. think not. am not hopeful.

Convinced it could not be had in New York, he asked me to find it for him. The wine is distributed by Korbrand in New York, and they do an admirable job marketing it. acres planted 90 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon vines and ten percent to Merlot vines planted in 1989. Twelve hours later, we each had half a case.

Screwcaps, scores, riesling, the Loire, Cali cab: John Gilman part two
Everything else is in place for greatness- brilliant terroir, old vines and a great tradition, but these have to be synthesized into the unfortunate new realities of global warming, and in my experience, the Austrians have still not made that leap. new, small oak barrels. German Riesling. And I really don’t understand why. The Loire.

    Why I Hate/Love New York
grew up here and I understand its appeal, but New York City makes me crazy sometimes. We decided on the dishes we would order and Deetrane very wisely selected the 1989 López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia , the regal white wine from probably the last traditional producer in Rioja. Places like that make me so cranky.

Interview with Augusto Cardona, Sales Manager, Italian Wine Merchants
However I have to say that the wine that did it for me, that truly made me realize that I love wine was Bartolo Mascarello's 1989 Barolo (out of magnum). We just received a number of new, interesting wines in the store that fit this bill. impact on me. However the one thing that made this one truly stand out was it's elegance.

Casa Marguery Malbec: Bringing the Past to the Present and Into the Future
had been learning all I could about French wine and because my blog focused on wines under twenty bucks my travels through the country via New York City wine shops eventually took me to Cahors. So they started setting their sights on exporting and the newly elected President Menem aided this venture in 1989. This happened to me.
