OCTOBER 26, 2008 [1978, Napa] Wine Spectator's California Wine Experience
Araujo Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley "Eisele Vineyard" 2005 * Smoky garnet color. A wine of great depth and class, and my favorite 2005 Napa cabernet of the night. Bond "Pluribus" Napa Valley 2004 ** did not display the depth and concentration I hoped for from a 2004 Bond.

MAY 20, 2010 [1978, Napa] The Alphas
The first was a wine receiption at the Links Club put on by The Napa Valley Reserve , "a private club and winery." Similarly, the 1978 Cheval Blanc ("the white horse with velvet tannins") displayed smoke, mushrooms, and sandall wood, paired perfectly with local soft goats cheese, but was boring by itself. MARCH 8, 2011 [1978, Napa] Antonio Galloni of the Wine Advocate [Q&A]
Last month, Robert Parker announced editorial changes at the publication he founded in 1978. How many times have you been to Sonoma and Napa and tasted there? It can be a big, bold Napa Cabernet Sauvignon or a cool-climate, lower alcohol wine.
BROOKLYN GUY LOVES WINE [1978, Napa] Sunday Lunch for the Ages - A Guided Tour of the Early Days of Rosenthal Wine Merchant
| TUESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2011
We drank a first-growth Bordeaux from the 1978
vintage that Neal purchased upon release. This past weekend I participated in one of the greatest wine events of my life. Neal Rosenthal and his wife Kerry Madigan made lunch for a group of people and opened a slew of wines to share. This was not a business lunch. The only wine business people in attendance were people who work for Neal and Kerry. MORE >>
DR. VINO [1978, Napa] Mayacamas Vineyards – tasting notes and more, from John Gilman
| THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2010
The great irony is that while Mayacamas Vineyards has faithfully stayed the course first fashioned by Bob and Elinor Travers soon after their purchase of this historically important estate in 1968, the world of wine has seen its attention span lessen, and the great quality of the cabernet sauvignon at Mayacamas has gone from the center of the California wine universe to one of the best-kept and little discussed secrets buried in the mountain vineyards that tower above the Napa
Valley. MORE >>
DR. VINO [1978, Napa] Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman
| TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2009
Even a potentially targeted wine such as one of Bruno Giacosa’s top cru bottlings from either Barbaresco or Barolo is much less likely to be fake if it is the 1974 or 1979 Santa Stefano, rather than the 1978
or the 1971. Again, this is not the same mentality that would have any meaningful representation today in places like Bordeaux or Napa
Valley, but one sees this same phenomenon at work quite often in Burgundy and elsewhere, so it is not a unique Piemontese mentality. MORE >>
