suppose this is not shocking, but I hadn't really thought about it until I saw bottles in cellars and started asking questions. Sometimes these wines are disgorged and then aged as you or I would age Champagne (except our cellars are not underground and cavernous) - in a cool dark place, sealed with a cork and a wire cage. honestly tried many of them between 1973 when I moved into the region until, I gave up on them around 1980. Last year, on the Cayuga Wine Trail, I finally found a few very nice reds and this past year discovered a new Finger Lakes winery that is producing some very excellent reds, the Damiani Wine Cellars. DR. VINO | THURSDAY, JUNE 4, 2009 Australian Riesling - Can it age? - Grosset, Steingarten and Leo Buring
The fourth vintage of Polish Hill, it was bottled under cork (they switched to screwcap around 2000) and had mid-shoulder fill (if the bottle had shoulders, that is) and came directly from the cellar of Jeffrey Grosset (pictured right), one of only a few bottles remaining. Also of note was the 1973 Leo Buring DWC15 Riesling Clare Valley. MORE >> -

Stag's Leap Cellars was rolling out their new chardonnay at BLT Fish; someone just canceled would I like to attend. In 1973 this man -without even knowing it at the time. By the way, in the most recent thirty-year anniversary of the "judgment of Paris" The same 1973 cabernet vintage won second place. I'm just a wine geek. MORE >>
