    Birth Year Wines
I'm going to be 40 years old not too long from now (absurd, as I still like to think of myself as a 27 year old) and I hope to find a special bottle from 1971 to share with friends on my birthday. 1971 was a good vintage in Burgundy and also in Piedmonte, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something interesting and delicious.

Natural wines, premox, chenin blanc, 07 Port and Rhone – John Gilman
perfect example in my opinion of going over the top and valuing the process over the results could be seen with Domaine Leroy’s wines in the great, great red Burgundy vintage of 1993. John Gilman, author of the newsletter The View from the Cellar , joins us again for a Q&A. asked him six questions; he replied with over 10,000 words!

1971 Giacomo Conterno? Nothing othing but older burgundy (or barolo or Cornas) would do to haul me out of the hole. But that was the only other white Burgundy that came close to this experience. 1971 Giacomo Conterno? Nothing othing but older burgundy (or barolo or Cornas) would do to haul me out of the hole.

    Domaine Pierre Morey, Meursault
Perhaps the finest and most memorable lesson that I received in Burgundy terroir came at the hands of Pierre Morey. Pierre Morey is considered to be one of the very finest wine makers in Burgundy. Although he started his own Domaine in 1971, he was for many years the quiet force behind the wines of Domaine Leflaive.

1971 Giacomo Conterno? Nothing othing but older burgundy (or barolo or Cornas) would do to haul me out of the hole. I don't go in for the what I drank last night kind of blogging but every once in a while I have to give in to the temptation. And mostly because I've been complaining about the lack of excitement in my glass. Gerald!

    Brooklynguy's Blockbuster Trade
I was recently given the gift of two Grand Crus and two 1er Crus, both by excellent producers in Burgundy. Plenty of Burgundy, but lots of Faiveley, Jadot, Bouchard, and other negociant bottles, not what I usually go for. Even though that 1971 Corton I had in Portland recently convinced me that this is the little Grand Cru that could.

Dinner with Peter Liem and Friends
We ended our meal with a Grand Cru Burgundy from my birth year, the 1971 Prince de Merode Corton Clos de Roi. This is the whole point of cellaring good red wine from Burgundy, I suppose. Brooklynlady and I left the little daughter with her grandparents in San Diego and went to Portland for two days and one night. Is this normal?

    Polaner tasting standouts
began in a French table area and tried some Sancerres (made from Sauvignon Blanc), some white Burgundys (made from Chardonnay) and some white blends. Hubery Lamy of Burgundy presented 3 wines. stumbled upon a 1971 (yes that is older than me) Moulin Touchais Coteaux de Layon made in the Loire Valley of France. don't know.
