WHY WINE BLOG | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2011 Chateau Lafayette Reneau Dry Riesling 2010 Finally, able to uncork a wine and enjoy a glass or two (or three). Three weeks and only a few bar pours with a dinner is all I have been able to do since my ulcer started acting up the day before Thanksgiving. Presently, I am staying away from red wines and trying to ease myself back with some nice light white wines. OK, I can do that! MORE >> -

Given the incredible backdrop described above, you might expect that the Syrah served to a guest would be elegant and balanced. Perhaps from a famous winemaker like Guigal or Chapoutier in the Northern Rhone. Appelbaum's lovely cat Sally! To learn more, click here. News S. MORE >> -
VIGNA UVA VINO | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2011 Wartalia "Kikoi" Aglianico 2010 DOC This find is a 100% Aglianico, aged briefly in wood then in bottle. Ruby red colors, medium intensity, clear appearance, with clean aromas of mature red fruit along with floral perfumes. The palate shows a dryness with medium acidity and tannins, spice with a vegetal hint, and good length on the finish. Reminds me of a raspberry pie. MORE >> -

A WINE STORY | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2011 Visiting Glen Carlou & Backsberg Arco Laamar & Harry Haddon (checked shirt). Two wineries being neighborly!”. Glen Carlou and Backsberg are neighboring wineries in Paarl who kindly hosted me for a tasting of both wines, then lunch at Backsberg’s lovely al fresco restaurant. Both seemed very effervescent and personable and passionate about South Africa and its wines. News S. MORE >>
