DR. VINO | FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2011 Aging Muscadet on the lees – and a Melon de Meursault Muscadet gives pleasure when it is freshly squeezed. But aging the best examples can be worth the wait. Muscadet gains richness with time spent on the lees. VINO | WEDNESDAY, MAY 4, 2011 Muscadet 2010 has the snap, the crackle, and the pop Muscadet has had recent parallels to Goldilocks: The wine region near the mouth of the Loire River was hit by a reduced harvest in 2008, an abundant harvest in 2009, and a just right harvest in 2010 that has superb quality too. VIGNA UVA VINO | THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2011 Fattorie Gianozzi Villa Marcialla Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva 2007 DOCG At the Fattorie Gianozzi just south of Florence in the district of Barberino Val d'Elsa, this Chianti is made with 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. After fermentation, macerated in stainless steel barrels for 3-8 days, then aged in big oak barrels, which mutes the wood effects, for 26 months and another six months in bottle. Good soft finish.
