2000 Gatinois Brut , about $45, Polaner Imports. The millennium vintage in Champagne was not a great one, in the end. It was a ripe vintage, strange as that may sound for Champagne, and apparently many of the wines lack precision and focus. really, how bad would your fruit have to be to voluntarily miss out? Last week I tried the 2006 vintage of this Zinfandel from California, and this '07 is almost as good. more subtle caramel aroma could be found under the raspberry and spice overtones. Following with white pepper, leather, tea and herbs on the palate and a finish quite lively and very drinkable for the price of around $11. MORE >>
